I goat hunted that area a couple of years back and there are a lot of areas to go, however I think access is still an issue up there. The Whiteswan FSR is closed at 43K until the end of October and I am not sure if there are many alternative roads before that point. The ministry website is directing any calls about the closures in that area to: Dave Rebagliati at (250) 417-9596 or Len Palajac at (250) 919-5523.

Good Luck.

Big fire in the area recently, plus still issues from the flood last year that washed out bridges. I haven't been up there myself but I would certainly make some calls before heading in there. There are some nice cut blocks just past the lake.

One would be wise to take advantage of the induced road closures. Might be a tad more challenging with a 79 year old but can definitely be done.

You are talking about the east koots so be prepared for a bunch of other hunters on the roads. Lots of whities and elk but you'd have to be fairly lucky to get a nice 6pt off the road. Camping at Whiteswan Lake and Alces Lake is nice and the bonus is the hot springs just down the road.

Coyote Creek to the east is nice too. The big bulls are up high, spend time glassing.

lots of people when I was in that area for elk 5 years ago. I saw alot of headlights early in the morning driving roads that were supposed to be closed.. Also guys on bicycles trying to get into closed areas. Lots of game if you can get away from people, but thats not easy to do in the mountains unless you really want to hike. One of the guys I was hunting with got a nice elk south of Whiteswan and I shot a good whitetail down lower.

I took a nice billy out of Inlet creek a few years back. Saw some real nice black bear and lots of mulie sign in there too.

Elk or no elk, I would like to see photos of the "79 year old grand dad" on the mountain bike with a rifle!

'Game carts' can double as 'grampa carts'.

Too bad Sasquatch doesn't have a proper set-up for attaching to a TW or peddle bike.
