So I have my dads old .303 Lee Enfield Mark 1. I have managed to hunt the last year and this spring no problem with the original open sights that come with it

Problem I have is that the lowest it really goes down to is 175 yards so I have had to adjust my aiming to be about 6-8 inches below where I am aiming as all my shots are around the 60 yard range. I am looking to see if anyone out there has found a better set of open sights that works really well for the 303.

I don't want to have it drilled to put a scope on as for the cost of that I could pick up another gun with it drilled already so just trying to work with what I got. Any suggestions?

I'm just guessing here, but if you loosen off the back sight screw and shimmed it up a bit at a time, wouldn't that make the rifle shoot lower?

williams peep site or try different ammo.In the 5 303 's I've had the 150 grain factory ammo generally shot 4-8 inches lower than the 180 grain at 100 yards. or you could file the notch in the rear sight deeper.

You could also use an S+K mount, no drill and its rock solid.

Thanks for the tips. I shoot 180 grains out of it there so never tried with the 150 to see where the difference would be. Would be nice to have it zero'd into 50yards with the open sights but was hoping to see what was out there instead of messing around too much with it.

Thanks for the tips for the S+K mount BuckNaked. When I asked at places they never meantioned anything like that as I could now upgrade this gun to have a scope rather than get another one and then get a scope to put on it. You ever used that mount?

its on my MkIII right now. From the pic its tough to figure out how it works, but there is a band that goes around the barrel and a wedge block that works with the charger bridge to secure the mount to the rifle.
