Well with last year being my first year diving into hunting and being by myself I don't really have a good clue of where to go, what would constitute good territory to focus on. Well the other day I decided to dig a bit deeper into an area I thought had some better chances of showing some promise and definitely wasn't disappointed.
I knew there were some older tracks from doing a quick search from last time that were somewhat recent but I am looking for moose territory. There are moose tracks as well but these I believe are elk right?

With the taller grass and bushes around I was able to find more recent trails a lot easier which led me to find some fresh poop and very recent beds and this

Was pretty surprised that these trees where thrashed like that. With this time of the year I would be thinking that it would be elk as moose wouldn't do anything like this til a bit later...
So if that is true and there is a decent elk bull hanging around then maybe I will try my first elk hunt when the season first opens then focus on moose later on. And speaking of moose, I'm hoping this guy comes back around for me to say hi to
