Good luck, I have enough trouble finding sheep hunting partners let alone someone crazy enough to chase goats:)

Looks like finding a partner will be harder than finding a goat. Lol.

When is the draw? When you expecting to leave?

bangbangkhan

My draw is for 3-16a sept 1st. But I don't think I can hunt there...there are easier places to hike to than stien valley.

Just wondering why you would put in for a draw to a place that is too difficult for you and you don't want to go to???

It's a sad story ;(

I put it in on behest of my friend..he knows the area well but Now he got lucky with a moose draw and our plans are conflicting.

I had this draw 6 years ago. Didn't connect but have put in religiously ever since to no avail. It kills me to see someone getting the draw and not going!
If you want some info about where the goats are and how to get in, PM me

I am going scouting this weekend. I will use the draw for sure not gonna throw it away. Never know when I will get it again!!!

Hey Behemoth, I believe we talked when we had this draw same time as you, I decided to share my info and hike in for a looksy with the newbie. I'll post pics and let erebody know how it went. This is a tough draw, if I had my way everybody would have a shot.

well the scout was successful only cause of Andrew...otherwise I could never imagine going alone....very thick alder for 5 KM...crossing a lake through a beaver log...fording kwoiek creek...just to mention some challenges.

In my mind 3:16a is a 5 day backpack trip with 2 days for travel and 3 to hunt, anyone applying for this tag should keep this in mind. The peaks get snow early so if you are heading in from Kwioek you should go early or it will get extra dicey. It's a tough area to access, some good goat huntingand awesome scenery but a slog to get in. Roads are now alder bear tunnels, bridges are pulled, and we stepped into a snake pit (seriously). I enjoyed myself and got some good exercise even though we didn't make it as far as I would have liked, with only 2 days it was rushed. Izzy seems like a straight shooter who I'm sure learned a lot as this was his first real back pack trip.

Now you just have to see if you can cheat the weather come September.
Or dare I say........October!

Kudos to you guys for getting back there. Most folks could easily come up with 50 excuses not to. My goat territory looks like a walk in the park compared to your terrain. Hopefully a trophy will be taken. You will have surely earned it!

Nice country , thanks for the pics
Like 'the road' pic , not a walk in the park for sure. How far in can you drive from the Fraser ?

That is some cushy looking goat country! I never see them in stuff that open. Enjoy your hunt, It'll lead to a horrible addiction from which there is no recovery.

It's clear to Kwioek Lake, there's a nice camp site there, lots of small fish jumping in the lake, although the lake is pretty silty. After that you are bush burning your vehicle pretty hard, mother nature's taking back the road but you can drive almost to John George Lake with a Subaru Forester (there was one parked there, Skihist is the tallest mountain in south western bc so it get's a lot of attention from the peak hunters). The first part of the road used to always wash out in a few spots but they put a run of river project in their so the first part is good gravel now...You can also access the area we got to from the stein valley trail and then some bush bashing but it's a considerably longer route.

Good luck to Izzy, hopefully he finds a partner to adventure in there with him. It would be a great achievement to kill a billy in there and pack it all out.

Hey looks like fun. I got a leh goat draw too but its a bit easier, drive for an hour, walk on a maintained trail for 45 minutes to alpine. 1:1 odds. Your story makes me feel wimpy but...thats ok.

they will be. Go in quitely and try not to stir them up. if you can watch them for a day or two it really helps. they are creatures of Habit. If you know where they're bedding down each day, like a nice meadow or rock bluff, take a LONG way around them and pop out above. they never look up :)
