Eh good morning. Just got back from 10 days in the hills. Seen every animal imaginable almost, except rams, again lol.
Curious on if any of you sheep hunters have ever seen rams hang around salt licks before? We seen a ton of goats, Billy's, nannys and kids, along with a lot of ewes and lambs, all hanging around these salt licks, but no rams?
in your sheep hunting experience, has anyone seen rams use Salk licks frequently? Or will they stay away with so much other game around? The whole mountain we were concentrating on was full of holes and caves where we would watch goats and ewes and lambs go into constantly, sometimes they would sit in them all day long licking rock.
Was hard holding off on one of these nice Billy's in my hopes of a 10" winter goat this year. But hopefully get some insight on rams and salt licks, for maybe next year.... Yay or nay?

A few of the Billy's I passed on , the one there is kinda haunting me lol.

Well done leaving him. Looks like a tennis ball with legs. We do see rams on licks but generally not where the ewes and lambs are.

Looks like one heck of a heavy goat for sure! Nice pics and thanks for sharing!

I've seen ewes and lambs at mineral for sure....but not sure about rams using them. Guessing they would?

Thanks all. Ya there were no shortage of goats ewes and lambs. Last season we seen 2 ewes and 1 lamb, this season we couldent keep track of all the sheep and goats lol. I know the mountain use to hold rams, but I suppose if ewes moved in, rams would move out ? What about goats, any thought on if goats will push rams off a mountain?

From my experience this summer I found ewes and lambs in "goat terrain", goats in "ewe and lamb terrain", and rams in the most ridiculous unhuntable gnar!

Lol geo , we found the exact same thing. Iv yet to see a ram, iv always been glassing what iv been told is sheep country. These ewes and lambs were right where I would have thought a goat would be, and the goats for the most part were in some of the easiest terrain iv ever seen them in. The way they stuck around these licks, was like an addict on east Hastings lol.
