Ive been hearing rumors today about sockeye going to 4 a day. But have only found news articles online stating it will be going to 4 a day by the weekend. Can't find it on DFO website. Does anyone have some solid info on a date? Thanks

The test fishery has seen 1.1 million as of this morning so from what I know in talking to DFO in the past, their target escapement has been meet so I guess it's possible. The numbers of fish coming in has slowed down though and the numbers are now lower than the same date in 2012 (were initially much higher), most likely due to the numerous commercial openings they have allowed in the past couple of weeks. Did it open to 4 a day in 2012? I have only really started to pay attention to the data this year. As an alternative there are lots of pinks coming now if you want to get your 4 fish per day ;-).

Fishery Notice - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Subject: FN0688-RECREATIONAL - Salmon - Region 6 - Skeena Recreational Sockeye Daily Limit Increase

The most up-to-date in-season forecast available on July 25th, 2014 is Skeena
Sockeye return to Canada estimated from 2.1 million to 3.5 million (90% and 10%
probability levels) with a 50% probability level of 2.6 million. A return of
this size allows an increase in Skeena recreational sockeye daily limit to
4/day, as per management action guidelines in the Northern B.C. IFMP.

Effective 00:01 hours Saturday, July 26, until 23:59 hours Monday, September
15, 2014 the daily limit for sockeye salmon has been increased to 4 fish per
day from 2 fish per day in the following waters:

The mainstem waters of the Skeena River from the mouth upstream to the
confluence with the Babine River.

Anglers are reminded of the sockeye non-retention area on the Skeena River from
the boundary sign approximately 100m upstream of the confluence with the
Kitwanga River downstream to Mill Creek.

Anglers are reminded that only single barbless hooks may be used in all streams
in Region 6 and there is a total daily limit of 4 salmon per day in the
aggregate.

The waters of the Babine River will remain at 2 sockeye per day.

Variation Order No. 2014-331 and 2014-334

Notes:

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal
waters of British Columbia.

Anglers are requested to release any hatchery marked sockeye. These fish are
hatchery raised sockeye and part of a recovery program designed to increase the
numbers of Cultus Lake sockeye.

The term "hatchery marked" means a fish that has a healed scar in place of the
adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery
program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and
coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for
coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program
toll free at (866) 483-9994 for further information.

Rockfish Conservation Areas that are currently in effect and are closed to all
fin fishing. Descriptions of these closures, and other recreational fishing
information, can be found on the Internet at:

Fed gov't just won't stop poking the FN beehive!

What are you trying to say? FNs have there been able to catch theirs since before the Commie openings, the commies have caught theirs, not it is the Sporties turn. Where is the problem? On a happy note, Great news that the limit was upped to 4!!!

Gitxsan say no fishing in their territory, DFO increases limits. Just not the smartest way to negotiate a reasonable outcome for fishing in the skeena this year. Nobody knows what is going to happen on Aug 4.

The Gitxsan haven't laid claim to the entire Skeena system..... If they get upset about this they should also be upset with all the fish the commies are catching at the mouth of the Skeena (which is also outside to their "claimed" territory).

Between lost fishing oppertunity and my moose draw being in gitsan (sp?) territory im in a position to be very frustrated this year.

We went to 4 a day very late in 2012. In babine lake and river anyways.
