I will be giving it a go, if I cant locate some of the *******s here in the fraser valley I will have an excuse to go further. Have seen plenty of tracks and photos of the trail cameras but can never seem to see any when I am out and about.

population in the west kootenays is certainly highest its been for close to a decade. have been seeing them all times of the day while out scouting - munching on clover along the roads mostly but also on nearly every game cam at night. should be a great year to take young hunters out & start them off with some bunnies.

This year will be my first hunting. Very excited for the rabbit season as numbers are high and I love to eat them. Hoping for beginners luck and that my shooting practice will pay off

What tactics do you guys use? Just walk and look for em? I am confused why I never run into them and only see their tracks

If we are hunting A honey hole me and my brother will set up a drive and push the rabbits out. If we are looking for new areas we drive around or walk old roads.

Perhaps we were walking right by em, once it opens maybe I will need to rally up a buddy and try the push method.

Perhaps we were walking right by em, once it opens maybe I will need to rally up a buddy and try the push method. It's funny, I've been out with people who can't see them until I've shot them, I'm pointing and they're like "where? where?" lol. Usually once they see a couple they pick them all up.
I'll be at the cabin for the long weekend and plan to go looking for bunnys.

I know I'll be hating mountain house as usual, but I'm hoping we get some fresh tenderloins right away and ribs for over the open fire. Licence bought. Bag packed. Hopefully I'll have some pics if we tag out early for you guys. Hare assassin are you also doing a fly in this year?

First bunnies in the bag...the new Weatherby SA-08 20 gauge showed it's stuff and was blooded. Would've had more except for
the weekend camper traffic, 3 vehicles whipping through the area during the dusk prime time.

They do have an odor for sure, the first one I got in the spring was the worst, so all the others I've got since then don't seem too bad. The last one I just bbq'd was the best tasting one so far too. I'm hoping to get my butt out of bed early tomorrow to hunt at first light!

Whats a good method to carry all them wabbits while on the move? Last outing I had them tied to my cammel back bleeding down the back of my legs lol!

backpack with any sort of plastic bag liner...those clear industrial garbage bags but cut down so it's smaller works great, some of those heavier plastic shopping bags would work just as good too

I have been using the heavy duty fish bags since I have some on hand. I have been road hunting them in my truck right now, so I have been also bringing a cooler along to put them in. I tried doing the squeeze gut method on a couple hares yesterday, but it didn't get all the guts out and there was some spoilage in the front legs/ribs area from something. It could have been bruising from the squeezing or contaminated from something rupturing? I'm not 100% sure everything that squeezed out came out nicely and didn't look ruptured but I don't want to waste anything so I am going to go back to the normal "peel and gut" method to clean them. I am thinking that I might just start to gut them on the spot, toss them into the cooler and then they're ready to go when I get home.

In the winter I was using the same fish bags in my pack while snowshoeing like BRvalley said. Good thing about winter is you don't need to pack around the cooler! (well at least up north here)

Look for tracks and poop. Make a note of the location and go there at first light or evening.
I find I have the best luck at the crack of dawn.

The best way to carry any upland is an upland vest, with a game carrying pouch that wraps around thee jacket, can fiit anything and everything. You need on. An upland hunt, I doont like plastic for any game as it can prevent cooling

I went up furry creek this morning at the crack of light. Walked all the little side trails and logged patches but didn't see a single rabbit. It was my first time out ever and not sure what to think. I'm looking for the same info as you lol

Rabbits can be tough, they aren't just everywhere, they like specific habitats, and because of that they are found in pockets, where there is one there will be 2, 3, 4, or 20, 30 rabbits, find the absolute thickest stuff possible, with berries, thorny brush and dead fall, thick new growth, that kind of stuff, for example one of our spots is a. 20km road and we only see rabbits in a 300 yard stretch, but we see up. To 40 a night there
