Just wondering who the best it in the area. Wife drew the ok mt park goat so need to get things sorted for when we bring that trophy billy down off the mountain. :-D Thinking a head/neck mount and a rug with the rest.

Well in taxidermy there is no such thing as the " Best " be very careful your choice . Make sure you check out more than a few pictures of there mounts . Nothing worst to see than a bear rug with no ears or a sheep with a big smiley lips or a life size goat bedded with only one leg .
Check out Bernie's Taxidermy in Vernon may take a little longer but your wife's goat will look like a goat not a deer in the headlites look .

Very true. Do some homework. But if you ask me I would recommend Mark Krause in kelowna. He doesn't have a fancy studio or anything but he does really amazing work. If you called him up he would let you see some of his work I'm sure. He also has great turn around times and is very passionate about it.

Harley White. He isn't the cheapest but he is the best. He did the OK MT. Goat from last year and it was awesome. Congrats on the draw, be picky cause there are some world class Billies up there

Plan on doing a lot of scouting for a good one. Does Harley have a website? Can't seem to find one.

It does not appear that Harley has a web site but give him a call and I'm sure he would be happy to have you come up and look at his work.

He is most famous for his "squirrel on a bike" mount.

I got a sheep draw this year and it will be my first animal to go to a taxidermist (hopefully), do i need to give the taxidermist a call beforehand to give him a heads up of a possible kill to make sure he can take the animal or do you just give him a call once you have your animal and drop it off?

You can easily fit an uncaped sheep head in the freezer to buy you some time.

Nah, he'll take it after you kill it. ;)

Harley has done some excellent work for me. So has Dean Titanich.

x2 on Dean. We got an animal back from him last year and were very happy with it. Top-notch work. Seems to be a busy guy though.

Dean Titanich in Black Mountain does very good work. If you are not in a hurry to get it back he is the guy you want.

Nice thing about Harley is you get your mount back within a year and he does great work. He has done full size and shoulder mounts for me and all are spectacular :)

Don't overlook the importance of the care that you take on the hide in regards to quality of final product. Take your time skinning, keep it clean, salt or freeze it ASAP, give the Taxi lots of extra hide to trim (insert you can't have a good mount and a rug out of one goat).

I assume you mean I have to choose which one will be a priority. Well that's easy lol. A good mount first and see what can be done with the rest I guess.

One thing I wonder is if I shouldn't wait till later October to harvest vs mid September simply for the reason that the fur might be longer and better looking later in the season.

The later the better on a goat, just my opinion ..

The last week of October will be your best bet for a billy that's haired out. In that country you will want to wait as long as possible for those cooler nights. I hope your wife is excited as I am for her.....she pulled a very lucky ticket.

Mark Krause is beyond just a taxidermist! He is an artist, seasoned craftsman, and a magician! His work is top notch, and his turn around time is impressive. His prices are also very reasonable. Its a little creepy how life like his mounts turn out. Check him out! His shop is nice and close in Black Mountain as well. Heck of a guy, and amazing service! Highly recommend Mark!
