I'm getting anxious to hit the hills and start looking for tine but with all the snow we've got this year it'll probably be still a month away. So to ease the wait (or make it worse) post up some shed pics if ya got them. I'll start off.

Steveo,
I'm up to 18 thus far, the majority have been found while working. Found a tiny 3 point moose shed the other day while sledding to work. Fresh blood all over the base. Looked like he must have dropped it that night. Funny how those little farts hang onto them so long. Saw a little forky muley the other day still packin both sides. Maybe I'll find his sheds and add them to my tally. :) You got any pics of that slug you found last year????

Why don't you come down to the Fraser Valley and find me some BT drops.....

Here is an ATL BT drop from a few weeks back. Just remember that this picture doesn't do justice to the thick jungle I'm usually cursing through......

Husky,
Let's put it this way, I've only killed one buck (MnT) that I have picked up the sheds off of in previous years. The majority of the sheds I have I've never seen hide nor hair of the bucks that carried them in or out of season.

Lap,
The pic with the sheds on the fence was from several years ago and it has some of the bigger sheds of a combined collection of my buddy and I. Definately way more than one year of big shed finds there.

Srupp,
Being a shedhead is an addiction. The more you collect the bigger your pile gets. In the past I've sold when things started getting out of hand. I used to carry pretty much every thing out of the bush, now I don't. Now I take a pic and hang the sheds up in trees if they aren't in good shape or if they aren't big 'uns. As for the big 'uns, I pack them out and my pile is taking over the living room ;) . The only thing I'll sell now is moose sheds. I spend a lot of time out looking for bone and it allows me to get to know new areas intimately. We make camping trips out of my passion and we get to explore some awesome areas around the province. It all goes into the mental data base for future hunting trips. :)

Here's a moose shed I found in the Chilcotin a few years ago. The arrangement of points on the brow palm allows it to stand on end without support.

So, whats the trick? Although I cant say ive honestly gone out into the biush to specifically find sheds, i never find the buggers out hunting inthe fall.

Are there any tricks as to where animals tend to drop em? I supposeprobbaly not, but I mean im sure it would help to know where the animals winter...

Ive also heard walking fencelines works well, as when a deer jumps a fence, the impact when he lands often makes his horns drop.

Would it be alot to ask to post some tips for budding shed hunters? =D

You never find them in the fall, becuase you are probably hunting or scouting where the deer are in the fall. The deer may not even be in that area when the antlers are falling. Hit the areas where you think the deer are wintering and head out right now. I know a few guys in kelowna that go out every weekend starting about a month ago and they usually find some sheds.

I am still waiting for the snow to melt. On the winter range we have anywhere between 5 to 125 cm of snow with the average around 65 cm. Lots of deer around and some major trails, but with all the new snow in the last month, most of the bone will be buiried. Have to wait until it warms up some more.

Thanks BHB - now to determine where the deer migrate in winter. In all honestly I think many deer stay in the general vicinity unless of very high range. At the very least they move into thicker cover where the snow doesnt pile as high.

Basket Hitch for the boxes is run through the cinch ring, locks them down. The rest is just sort of lashed on as they were picked up. Lots of rope, with 'special' knots. Antlers are in-and-about both boxes, one side has a sheep skull and horns from wolf/winter kill.
This stuff is for me. I save the rodeos for the hunters gear
