Hmm look for water on these early season moose hunts....

TIP....in the morning look along a lake for fog...that will be the coldest temp...hence the fog...usually a stream that enters that lake...moose should be close by

Tip...moose come down to round shaped lakes

Moose travel along long lakes using one of the many trails at different elevations....

Good luck

Steven

A good area to start in would be around Morice Lake. There are tons of other lakes in the general area to hunt and camp at as well. Lots of swamps, cut blocks, water. Nice country.

The last time I had the early draw I shot a moose in the morning and it was around 6c, by noon it was over 20c. So you best have a plan to deal with the meat if you are lucky enough to harvest.

It can be pretty hot some years which can affect your chances but the moose will be there, the east side near Smithers holds a lot more moose than the west side near Terrace. Some years the rut is under way already at the tail end of you draw.

Not positive, but the Sausage factory on main, or Rudolphs in Telkwa might hang game. Never needed to worry about that as I usually go up for the open season in late October. I've hunted there, but the areas I frequent are not all that sure fire, but they're close to town. I like it though as my friend lives in Smithers, and I don't have to haul a ton of gear to go on a moose hunt.

Here's what a quick google search found.

Never to early to try calling, my dad had that draw a few years back, sept 12 we had a bull answer us and wander in, never got him tho, he was on the other side of a lake 1000 yards away.
Good luck, lotsa good area in 6-9, and decent moose population.
