I have that one or one very similar. I like it, the elk like to lick and chew on it. The clarity is not as good as my Bushnell, but very good just the same. Here is a sample

We all need more cameras :)

I have the Simmons Prohunter 7mp; tough, cheap, takes 4 batteries and avg 3500 picts for those 4 batteries, takes good day picts and some motion blur at night, but still good.

We just picked up a couple of these and will be putting them out in the next few days. Thats a good price for the camera.

Cheers

I just ordered that one on cabelas on the 6th. It gets pretty grainy in lower light before switching to IR. Overall really impressed with it. I just bought a pack of 8 recharchable batteries and I am really pumped to get it out. 4AA is the biggest sell for me. A lot of reviews said they had issues with water getting inside. Anyone else having issues with moisture? I may build a hood for it.

Just go pick up a cheap glad/tupperware container and place it on top, pinning it to the tree. I keeps the lens and camera free of rain, moisture while still letting light it.

I have had no problems with my Simmons getting wet inside, infact one of mine got chewed up by bear and is still woring today. It sat out, face up in the rain, sun and snow for 35 days and took 1000 pictures of trees and elk and moose bellies. It is now protected from bears.

Just got my first pics off this camera and am impressed.
Pictures are sharp with good colour and the IR seems to work well.
What I really love is this camera is half the size of my WGI and 1/3 the size of the moultrie. It's tiny.
Running on 4 AA's is a bonus plus it came with a folding brush saw. Double bonus.

Not sure how it will hold up over time but for just over $70 I would recommend this camera for sure.

I suspect that this is a knockoff the Swann OutbackCam. The OutbackCam has 15 IR LEDs, three less than this Simmon's Whitetail cam otherwise they are the same right down to the case.
The night time images are pretty clear and crisp in the OutbackCam so I suspect the the Whitetail will at least equal OutBack. Daytime photo and video quality are outstanding.
The only complaint I have is the narrow trigger range. I would prefer a broader range.
I ordered one so I will be able to compare and the price is right.

Wow. Thanks for pointing that out.

They were at $71.99 last one I bought which didn't qualify for the rebate but they have upped the price slightly so now the rebate applies.

Just ordered 2 more.

I think I might be addicted

only 1 deer? that bites, how long was it up?

Up for 7 days. A little trail that heads to water, also had a buck rub on it. Thought it might be a little busier than that. Live and learn.

is black and white an option or is that the only option? Or is that night?

They take decent daytime colour pics - I think it just depends on the light level and when the IR kicks in...

Put a little salt on the trail to stop them and/or attract them.

Great little camera, IR came on due to lack of light.

Thanks for posting

This is a great cam. Good quality pictures in all light conditions. Video is very good in daylight situations but is disappointing in night time. The IR is limited in distance. Also, the minimum 5 second delay is too long. Anything with a degree of speed will pass out of range given the delay before triggering and the narrow peripheral camera view. Otherwise good value for the price

I just picked up footage from two of my Simmons 4MP Whitetail cameras over the weekend. I'm happy with the quality and reliability. I ended up with good day footage of a spike and a doe. As for nighttime footage, the only critters to set it off at night were a family of hares but the quality was good nonetheless.

Sadly, after a long hike in to check the Moultrie D444, we found that it started malfunctioning again moments after we left it two weeks ago. It just shows a black line across the display. If I press the hidden/undocumented reset button, it will work for a brief period of time before crashing again. I'm going to send the D444 back to Moultrie, but I'll probably just end up paying to get it shipped around and end up with an unreliable cam, at which point I have an idea for it's final youtube appearance. Anyway, it's not the money so much that I'm cheesed off about. It's the missed opportunity. The footage would have helped us with our final decision on which spot to start hunting at on opening day.

Anyway, here's the Simmons 4MP Whitetail footage followed by the Moultrie D-444 footage. As you can see, the Simmons 4PM Whitetail cams (at one half of the price, or a third of the price if you count the rebate) seem to have better quality picture and more importantly, they seem much more reliable.

Did you notice the cougar limping?
Notice how the doe is flicking her tail? She is signalling others behind her that every thing is good and the others can follow. Remember this when you are sitting in a blind or up a tree stand. There are followers.

Ok I feel blind. I did not notice the cougar was limping, but I do now. I know that there is also a nice 4x4 in that area. I saw him at in person at 10:30AM a few days before the cat showed up on the trail cam. He walked right by us and bed down close by. I thought he was either stupid or knew the hunting regs. He looked healthy but seemed a little sluggish and tired. Now I'm really speculating... wondering if the cat was bothering him and he wanted to hang out around people for a reason. Also wondering what might have injured the cougar... looks healthy otherwise but maybe had a fight with another cat or got kicked by a deer? There's also a sow and a couple cubs a few kms away. Seems pretty action packed!

The spike buck and the doe in the previous video from the Simmons 4MP Whitetail is about 15km away from the rest of the action. We have spotted them in person a couple of times since early June. Looks like they spent the whole summer there, so I'm sure they will be around on opening day too. The spike seems easy to hunt, but I'm really leaning towards the area where we saw the 4x4 and got the rest of the Moultrie footage. Too bad the Moultrie packed it in, so I have no idea what has been going on there since mid August.

Hmmm.... which one to choose?

Nice

Just thought I'd add a tip for anyone running these cameras. Those 2 holes for running a cable through at the the top are the perfect size for a tree stand step allowing you to set them in pretty much any tree at any height at any angle. I get a log to stand on and put them up about 8 feet just out of bear range. No guarantee they won't get chewed or stolen but a little extra insurance if you don't have a lock box.
