Has anyone had one ??? How are they in comparison to other pointers? Are they the ultimate all round hunting dog???

Pointing Labs are not Pointers. They are Labs who have an instinct (genetic predisposition) to point and as such, cannot be compared to a true pointing breed.

Not all pups from a "supposed" Pointing Lab litter will point.

They are not the ultimate all-round hunting dog as there is no such thing.

A lab I had a long time ago went on point once, and when I went in to check it out a cat came running out of the ditch. haha

Pointing labs are just flushing dogs with a soft hesitant flush. There have been certain lines of Spaniels with the same fault. The difference is Spaniel trainers try to train it out of them(and usually succeed). In the Lab world certain factions try to promote it instead of fixing the fault. If you want a pointer get a pointing dog.

I actually knew a guy who had a lab you could put all sorts of different kinds of beer in the fridge. His owner would say "Cody Kokanee" and that dog would open the fridge hunt through the beers and bring back a Kokanee every time. smart dog, no taste in beer though LOL

Pointing labs are heresy, an abomination, genetic mutants that are insults to a fine breed.....I came within an inch of buying one though. :-D

All I know about pointing Labs is what I've read... I've never seen one work, so I really have no idea if they are good or bad. Based on what I've read, if I wanted an all-around dog that pointed, I'd go with one of the versatile breeds...
