Some regularly insist on not counting the brow tines as a point . This is a bit of a puzzle to me as Boone and Crocket and Pope and Young not only refer to the brow tine as a point but the G-1 is the first point counted and scored .
I suggest ( with a bit of jest) that some of those would suddenly have a change of heart and count those points on their newly acquired 5x5:-D ...
Cheers

I'm betting you count both sides like our American neighbors ...... " nice eleven point greybark"

I do agree that if the first point was counted meaning the eyeguard G1 point still have to be four legal points above the eye guard this would be the same as the point count in the regulations for mule deer..

The only reason that I could see is it is a wildlife management tool implemented many moons ago and it simply carried on through the years. It may even have been implemented to help distinguish a mule deer rack from a whitetail rack. I agree though that it is a bit of a oddity. I am sure a three point mule deer with an impressive brow tine would strongly object to any rule change regarding this subject.

But flogging a live horse is cruel, so one is left with beating a dead one as the only remaining option. Nice ten point!

The way I look at is that in BC the regs are a legality but not a reality. A buck during the 4 point or better season needs to have 4 points on one antler not including the eye guard. If I saw a buck with two eye guards (on the same side) and three points on top then it would be a legal buck, but would we only call it a three point? The BC 4 point is a government issued definition... most decisions they make are kind of ill-regarded so why discount our deer for that they are. If the next deer I shoot has 5 tines on each antler it's a 5x5 damnit.

VERY Nice!!

Although this fellow I took way back in 1996 has very gnarly brows that run ~ 2 inches or so (and thus would qualify for B&C scoring) I still call him a standard four point:

And this one I guided Pa to we simply called "Weird"

Hey, when scoring Island Blacktails it's like adding up what you're packing in your pants... every inch counts!
