Rainwater had mentioned in the "400 elk" thread that many hunters don't know what makes a 300 class elk. So, guess the score on this one I was fortunate enough to get in 2002.

I've seen elk horns that a friends dad had shot in castlegar bc they were about 4 ft wide and with the skull on the ground were up to my shoulder around 5 ft . what would something like that score

I don't know how big you are FD but I'm gonna guess 298 6/8s.

Well there were some really close guesses! He grossed 323 2/8, and netted 318 6/8. His royals are 17" and helped a lot. The G3s on this bull are long too, and differentiate him from 310 class bulls, as the G3 is the score killer on many elk. Longer G5s would put this elk into the 330 class.

At any rate, he's my largest so far, and I can still see him sneaking out of the bush to look for me. I had no idea he was coming in to the cow call, but something in my mind said "look over there" and as soon as I did, he came out of the thick spruce like a ghost. 140 yard double lunger, he went 30 yards.

Umm, yea, there just happens to be numerous pics floating around cyberspace of these bulls in a herd of what 20+ bulls. Most Big, several huge, with several Nontypicals in the bunch. No, not a hunter's wetdream. Eartags can be seen in some of the other pics. ;)

. The first thing I look at are the G3's and then main length and width then the brows and daggers.....you are soooooo right bud....the Threes and five lots of times make or break the bull.
