i have looked in the regs, but have not seen if there is a minimum bore size for muzzle loaders for hunting in bc. i am sure it used to be 40 cal. for deer but that was 20 yrs ago. does anyone know if there is still a minimum cal?

.36 is a good squirrel gun...

No specification, just use good judgement.

thanks for the reply. i figured i was missing something in the regs. i don't know if i would try it but a 32 cal with a maxi ball would probably kill a deer at close range. i know deer have been killed with a 25/20 or a 32/20.

Most hunters use .50 and up for big game...the most popular calibre in modern muzzle loaders is .50...

A .32 with a good load is about equivalent to a .22lr, a .36 with a stout load = .22 mag, even a .40 cal. is light for deer!

For general big game hunting .50 or .54 cal would be the best suited calibers. The .54 is more than capable of putting down deer elk moose or bear with proper shot placement. (from my own exp. using RBs).Practice at varied distances is important due to BP trajectory rates. Have fun and good luck...........

not to argue, but i think a 32 cal, 103 gr maxi ball with 50 gr of 3f g at 1750 fps with 700 foot pounds of energy is a bit more than a 22 lr and even a 22 magnum.

Have atter if you like, I was simply passing on info from blackpowder books and avid hunters, I should have stated "patched round ball" in my info. 50 gr. of fffg is a very heavy load for a .36 or .40 from what I can find, the heaviest recommended load for the best .32 cals. is a full 10 gr. less! Have fun!
