Well after a week of looking and close to 1000 km beating the roads we only came up with seeing one griz. This was my 12 year old daughters first grizzly hunt and she was so excited the day she got her leh draw results . We planed the hunt for 2 months ,talked to many of you on the site (thank you ) and had one of the best hunts of my life . And to many of you that mentioned Greggo he is doing well ,What a guy and the stories he tells .Well worth a day out of your hunt .On the first day we saw 12 black bears ,2 moose ,8 goats and a lot of grouse .This really got Saje excited for the next day .
The next day came and it was her 13th birthday great day for her to get a bear .Saw 4 smaller blacks in the morning .than around 1:00 a nice 6'3" step out and gave her a nice 130 yard shot . the bear went down with one shot and the biggest smile I have ever seen .After a few minutes of excitement, hugs ,hi fives there was some work to do . The words You shot it you clean it came from my mouth and her eyes became bigger than when she spotted the bear . Well after a hour and a little help from me the bear was skinned ,deboned and hanging in a tree over a creek to cool it down. And we were off for a night hunt for her griz, well after 4 days of 5:00 am to 10:00 pm we only saw one grizzly . It was a 6 foot boar and we were only 60 yards away and she told me ,she only wants to shoot one griz and this was not quite what she was looking for .So I guess we will wait till next year and hope to do it all over again .It sure is great being a dad

Great story. I always like the family stories. Good for her on the nice black bear and for deciding not to shoot on the griz.

Sounds like a wonderful experience all around.

Sounds like a good time, too bad you couldn't find G-pa. Absolutely nothing wrong with that consolation prize though, congrats to her !
That slide you posted in post #4, we made a play on a bear at the top. Hiked from where you took your pic to the top of the slide (top left chute) in an hour and 45 mins. My brother was puking and white with dehydration lol. Bear was gone when we got there but it was decent. I never knew there was sheep in there, ol greggo must have been holding out lol
See lots of quill pigs ?

Way to go Saje you made your papa proud. It's great that you guys were able to get some father/daughter time away and come back with a great first bear. She's got a great teacher to point her in the right direction and I think there will be lots more hunts for you guys in the near future. Well done Saje
