Hi all;

I'm trying to learn how to call Elk, and I've got a Carlton 2.5 call in my truck that I practice with on the way to/from work; however, I'm not really sure my calls are close enough to the real thing. I'm thinking about using an Elk Call App (speficially from Pico Brothers) to try and mimic while I'm driving.

Any thoughts on this - sound like a decent approach?

Thanks in advance of feedback!

I think watching a few hunting videos, or even nature videos of Elk interacting would be better.

The sound of the call doesn't have to be perfect at all. I feel it's more important to know when to call, when to respond and when to use different types of bugles, chuckles, screams, chirps, mews, etc. You are having a conversation and timing is everything, plus I've run into a few big bulls that didn't necessarily sound like they were supposed to!

Finally, I don't know if practicing your elk call while driving would fall under the definition of "distracted". :wink:
