I have been hunting the Squamish area for a few years and have never seen any big game that could be taken. That changed last evening. We spent the entire day walking and driving spur roads, put 150+km on the odo. We had spotted a bear at around 12 noon, he had turned and ran from me and despite my best efforts would not stop or present a shot. After a 200m dash after the bear jumped into the bush much to my dismay. We patrolled the general area until 6:15, we were coming back along the same stretch of road when my girlfriend pointed up the road. There was a bear, lumbering slowly away from us. I brought the car to a sudden stop, retrieved my gun and stealthily moved up the road. Now I was presented with the problem of how to kill a bear that was walking away from me with a measly .243, my initial reaction was to whistle at it (did nothing) then I yelled "hey bear." The bear stopped mid stride 75 yards away and looked back over its right shoulder. I put the cross hairs right in the middle of his head and squeezed the trigger. The bear dropped in its tracks. I was sure I had hit it in the head, but I still approached it with a loaded gun. By now my dog was beside me and barking her face off at the bear. I'm not sure whether or not it managed to live through having a bullet pass through its brain or if it was just nerves but the bear lifted his arse off the ground... I shot it in the vitals for good measure. It was now that I realized where the first bullet had actually struck the bear, it went in just below one ear and out the other. Next the tag was cut.
My amazing girlfriend and mother accompanied me on this hunt, and proved to be invaluable while skinning the bear (a boar). We caped and quartered the bear on the road, backed the vehicle (my mothers poor ford escape, survived a beating while driving around) up to it and loaded the meat into the cooler and the hide into a garbage bag. This doesn't seem like it should have taken long but we finished at 9:15, by the time we made it out of the valley it was well past 11. I will never doubt my .243 again....

I had an amazing day, that ended in an amazing way... Now on to the next adventure.

Attaboy! Good job. I bet your adrenaline was pumping when he raised his butt.

If your girlfriend is a good sport she gets it from her mom. Nice they both came along.

Lots of good bear country up here.

You betcha, when that bear moved we were all a little spooked.
It's a family affair when I go hunting, everyone gets a little blood on them at the least.

nothing wrong with giving a FYI, I know a guy who got shot with a .22 a couple years back while dirtbiking. It was a total accident but nevertheless it happened. Google it. I did say congrats as well so you can go dry on a rock if you don't like what said, even the op didn't have a problem with I said.

go on google and type "constant feeling of feeling disrespected" and then make an apt with your GP and ask for anti-estrogen pills, that will get you started to some form of normalcy.

Its comments like this that make me wonder why people even bother posting stories. Always has to be someone raining on the parade. "not trying to be a prick" I agree with Gerry I wouldn't want to see you when you are trying.

My apologies to the OP for this going sideways. Congrats on a great bear! I hope I have similar success soon! Don't worry Olympia I will check for on coming traffic, confirm there are no cubs and make sure its a mature boar before I pull the trigger:-D

Im glad you didn't get offended and I enjoyed your story, feel free to remind me what could have been done different when I post my stories. It was just a simple fyi since I always see signs on the side of fsr/gravel roads shot to hell and in the direction of corners. Just used your post to raise awareness and sorry about the way I came about it.
