Spent the day yesterday fishing inner Barkley near Pill Point. Dropped some prawn traps near China Creek with all the other traps, that was a waste of time. The Inlet is littered with commercial traps all the way from Dunsmuir to Chup Point and beyond. The wx was off and on, a little wind, a little rain, a little sun, a little swell.
After a late start we dragged some gear around for about 5 hours with good success considering my 2 buddies had never boat fished before. We boated 2 nice Springs 10 and 12 lbs and lost a few at the boat (pffft....rookies). We hooked many Crimson Rockfish and boated 3 good eater sized tasty morsels. And we had a couple of long releases that had to be good sized Ling cod :(.
All in all a great first day out for the 2014 season. Here's hoping all the predictions are right and stellar fishing is on it's way.
