Can anyone tell me what the access is like into Placer Lake? I know the road in is pretty rough but can a stock 4x4 make it up there without too much trouble? I was also hoping to camp up there, are there a couple sites by the lake?

Thanks

I haven't been there in years but I unless it has changed I would say no. We did see a unimog up there and once we helped winch up a sameri. Imho the only reason the samari made it was because it is so narrow.

there a few nice sites up there, and even an old fiberglass boat for communual use (the boat is in rough shape, but will work for one person)as far as getting a stock truck up there without at least a few inches of lift , i'd say its doable if you don't baby it, other wise don't do it, you're better off camping elsewhere and hiking in or better still, quad up.the fishing can be pretty good too.

Last time I was in there was 1992,just bought a new 3/4 4x4 cummins the month before. My buddy told me there was no way id get up the last streach.
Well I beat the truck pretty hard but made it,2-dented in hub caps but made it.There were about 10-15 4x4 trucks parked at the bottom that either tried it and failed or didn't even bother.
Fishing was good near the intake of the lake.
