Thanks to helpful and generous friends, I had a successful bear hunt this weekend!
After a lot of searching, we spotted this sow grazing alongside a mule doe on a slope. The bear took off up into denser woods and we tracked her for a bit. No sign of cubs and she was curious enough to stop and peer back down the hill at us.
The other hunters let me take the shot and after I got my heart and breathing under enough control, I took it.
She dropped, but then immediately popped back up and ran another 20-30 yards before expiring under a tree.
It wasn't until we examined it that we knew it was a sow. No cubs spotted and she was dry, so no worries there.
It's not the biggest bear, but I'm hoping it's good eating. Very nice fur with no rubs and a white chest blaze, too. I'm going to get a rug done, minus head and paws.
Thanks to Elkhound for taking me out to his bear spot, I_Am_Legend for helping me track and gut, Elkhound's daughter Morgan for spotting the bear laid up under a tree, which saved us a lot daylight, and SteeleCo and his son for transport and storage!
