Ok kids, love the Havalon knives! (love my Buck 119 too!) I bought a Havalon a few months ago and have been cutting stuff in the kitchen with it... I gutted a couple fish too. I may or may not have cut my finger doing so... ? So my question is, which Havalon blade do you guys prefer and why?

I have wanted one of these for a while, my buddy didn't seem to think they were any good. How easy do the blades break and/or dull?

#60 is what I use. Great knives

Awesome knifes - surgical instruments to say the least.

Blades? - just use the ones that came with it - haven't changed a blade yet and mine cuts tons of biltong!

Awesome knife, has limitations though. Amazing for skinning and caping but not great for getting through bone/cartilage .

Usually get a blade/deer, could probably push for 2 deer/blade but what is the point? Blades are so cheap.

Picked one up at the gun show here in March, hoping to try it out on a bear this weekend.

I love mine. Much easier to cut yourself but other than that there great!

I didn't know there was blade options? The 60A is all they have at my local shop.

For the Barracuda I get the HS127XT as that's all they have too.

60a or 60xt, the xt is a wee bit thicker and is not suppose to fit in my piranta but works just fine. xt holds edge longer, but still too fine for bones etc

Picked one up this spring myself. Great for what it is designed for, slicing. Extremely sharp and will cut your price hide to shreds if you are not very careful. So light in weight you won't notice carrying it. Not recommended for batoning firewood ;-)
No idea really as to which one I got, it is the shorter version. I was thinking it would give me a little more control then the long blade.

Best knife ever!! Like the original blade. I am sure the larger blade is great for butchering and filleting.

Because the knife uses the standard medical scalpel attachment system you can get dozens of different blades. Google scalpel blades and see all the options. Here's one site http://www.swann-morton.com

Great knife. But the 5 stitches in my left hand say be careful cutting windpipes with them. ;-)

Makes sense, but WOW, didn't realize the options!

I use the 60XT's and also have the 22's for finer jobs like detailing capes. Not particularily fond of the profile of the 22's and prefer the 23's that I used on my old Almedic #4 scalpel handle. I'll all out of 23s but am curious if they will fit my Piranta? They seem very similar.

I picked up a Havalon a few months ago and used it on a bear I got last weekend. Sure made quick work on skinning. I also used it to field dress, and I will say, watch your fingers, they are as sharp as advertised!

I have become "blood brothers" with just about every animal I've used mine on. It's an amazing knife but it's not a pry bar. For skinning and cutting of meat it's awesome!!! I typically use the #60 blades but I've got some #22 that make it even better for detail work around lips, eyes and such.

An awesome tool but just don't expect to split kindling with it. :)

Awesome knives. I bought one last year and broke down two deer with it. Worked better than any knife I have used in the past. I use the Piranta bolt with has a thicker blade

I have used the 22 Tracer, Piranta, and Baracuta knives from Havalon. They are awesome but as noted above they are not intended for prying and hacking. I like the 22 and 60A blades best on the Piranta model.

Very happy with mine, the only thing I don't like is they are very difficult to change a blade without pliers, especially when your hands are covered in blood! K

I have one but it rarely comes out. I haven't really found a use for them if you can sharpen a knife well. I do use it the odd time when doing fine caping but that is about it. It stays in my pack as a spare because they are so light.

Where would one find these Havalon knife systems in the LM or better yet Fraser Valley? I've only seen the Outdoor Edge options at the Langley big box….

Have one and love it!
Run the 60xt's and have found that my old scalple blades fit onto it quite well. I prefer the 23's for detailing capes over the 22's that came with the knife.

I love my Piranta for skinning:-), but keep my Buck Alaskan Guide for opening up the critter to gut it, and everything else.
