Hello fellow hunters! Almost every time I set up a trail cam this happens:

Anyone else notice elk doing this to the camera? I never see it with deer and bear, but elk, supposedly the smartest most evasive of the deer species :P. Anyone know why?

Deer would do it but because they are half as tall as an elk, they couldn't reach it.
.. simple -- can't reach it -- hahaha -- a deer is 36 to 39 inches at the shoulder

Not many elk around here. I though I was on the trail of a MONSTER WT for a few minutes.

The sweat on your hands handling the cam is a salty to them. Deer and bear check out mine all the time.

what kind of flash do you have?

old style flash or new style 'invisible' infra red flash?

ive also noticed that cameras that make a sound when taking a picture are noticed more. (older ones)

I have the infared flash on this one. I do find what sobirch said interesting though. I would consider this case-solved, don't know why it is only elk for me though.

BTW great looking spot you got there sobirch!

Have had tons of deer come stare at the camera, will post a funny video of a knubbed buck pretty interested in the camera at very close range (inches), and I'm sure some of you hbcers have found out the hard way bears love game cams, have had one eaten and one a solid video of a bear scratching it's back on the camera and ears moving back and forth acorss the screen, it's pretty funny, will try and find

I've had deer do that lots to my cameras. Even had the lens smeared once by its wet nose.

I love these pics, curiosity killed the cat.

But satisfaction brought him back

I spray scent eliminator on paper towel and rub down camera just before leaving. My cam gives one minute to close up and lock before going active Just started doing this as I have had close encounters of the bear kind and was hoping this might prevent future damage.

Elk knock my cameras around constantly, not a problem with deer. Had a Grizz bite one last year.

Moose do it too.

Most times they aren't interested but they always know the cameras are there.
