I'm not sure I follow you, that spike season already existed. It has been shortened by 2 weeks, Oct. 15- 31, not newly created.

No calf season in 7.1-7.15 except for seniors and youth. Wow might only see 300 hunters a day in some of those areas now.

Great to see the new expanded baglimits on whitetails in Region 3.

Region 4 got 4 pt or better all season on mulies, we'll see if this changes anything? I kinda doubt it, were seemingly kicking a dieing horse in the west anyway.

Of course it will change things. Trophy quality will decline more rapidly. Wannabe trophy hunters will continue to push for more regulation changes. Non Kootenay residents will continue to kill th smallest percentage of mule deer. Kootenay residents will continue to blame "lower mainlanders" for all that ails the region.

Deer like this will be protected so they can do the breeding:

Gotta love social management.

Nice to see along with the youth grouse season. Should help to keep the kids entertained in the midday/afternoons of the early season.

Sheesh... the regs have only been out for 5 hours!!! :D Short answer: yes. (Depending on your definition of "soon" of course.)

You're welcome. ;)

When I wrote the proposal, I was thinking "How can they turn this down?" when I quoted their own Hunter Recruitment and Retention Strategy that said: "Extend black bear seasons to provide opportunity on an under-utilized species."

Happy to see it go through. Glad the HRRS isn't just collecting dust on a shelf somewhere and can be used to get proposals like this approved.

Anyone else think there's gonna be a huge decline in whitetails in 3 now?

Pleased to see the change for the calf season in 7A. There is obviously a great reduction in moose in this area as the LEH for cows dropped from 55 to 6 in 7-08 alone. Now a body can be out there without the huge crowds.

I doubt it. But that's what MOE is hoping for. We don't want region 3 turning into region 4 with the mule deer in trouble

Nope. We're harvesting < 5% of the WTs, bucks and does combined. It would take harvest > 30% on females alone to stagnate population growth, considerably higher to cause a decline.

I had that draw in 2009 when there was 60 cow/calf draws. I remember the area was crawling with hunters and lots of camps. Good to see a reduction. In 5 days we saw only 2 cows. One came home.

So you prefer social management of hunters to reduce crowds over scientific management of wildlife?

The old saying was " lonely as a Maytag repair man". After the change (4pt or better MD and only 1 WT antlerless in 8-14) the saying will be " lonely as a hunter in the Christian Valley".

the slaughter of the does in region 4 started today.Lots of camps set up in the last few days. regs say you can take 2 does..... there is large decline of white tails in the last few years. last year some camps had upwards 15 deer hanging.

I was in the Bull River 2 years ago and seen a camp made up of mostly guys from delta, they had 22 deer hanging. From one of these hunters I spoke with I was told only 3 of them were small bucks. Must of been almost 20 people in this camp, who knows what their final harvest count was at. Two doe bag limit is a joke.

You got that right...It is a JOKE!!!!!. Down in the Ram creek same thing IT will end up like lots of other area's with no white tails!!!!

At the very least they should put the limit at 1 wt doe. And also move it out of the elk season. 1 week starting November 1st.

I support the WT doe season, but I agree that the limit should only be 1..and I imagine your right about the elk season, as many hunters hit the Koots for elk, then when they don't get one they end up taking a doe instead..I personally have seen the WT decline in one area of the WK that I used to hit up every season...

That being said, I'm surprised the WT haven't adapted as in staying off the roads and trails, even turning nocturnal like over here in region 8...

The bulk of the wt does are shot between Oct 10th and the 20th, and although requested to take a fawn very few hunters will pass up a mature doe standing there with her fawns. When the dust settles after elk season you find fawn singles and pairs wandering around on the edges of roads. The idea that shooting does will increase the population of bucks is bs. Between the predators taking fawns in the spring and then the wolves cleaning up the bulk of what's left of the fawns in the winter there is very little recruitment and a declining wt population (imo)
