Sooty Grouse is also known as the Blue Grouse as well as the Dusky, these are all names for the same bird. Or were, according to American Ornithologists's Union, who now consider Sooty and Dusky Grouse different birds. I (and the Game Bird Regulations everywhere I have looked) still consider them so (Blue Grouse). Here are a few links for anyone interested in learning more -

These Birds are not only a great bird to see... They are surely a favourite to Hunt!

All you hear in the lower mainland forests right now are these guys! This guy had at least 2 other bros in the vicinity hooting it up in full strut! Anyone know how long the breeding season is, ive seen these guys still displaying well into June in the past.

Ive seen them from Cultus Lake to the top of the Coq.

I got this guy and the 2 hens up at Portia last June.

Just on digital, these were taken in June. Believe me, I went back looking for them in September, they must have knew I was coming and split town!

Heard my first Ruffed Grouse the other day, I thought I was having a heart attack...I could feel the drumming in my chest that clearly! I don't think I had heard it in the wild before, thought it was pretty cool once I figured out what it was.

Very interesting, that website shows that there are no Blue grouse on the west coast of British Columbia. I beg to differ.

I believe that website says there are no Dusky grouse on the west coast of British Columbia... Because the kind of Blue Grouse you find there is the Sooty! Still, those maps are certainly nowhere being the most accurate representation of Bird range, simply something to give a rough idea to those interested. Definitely Blue Grouse there, the Sooty's love that country we Hunters so often associate with Blacktail Deer.

Blue Grouse are one of our most wonderous Bird species! Very tasty animals and an all around great bird to Hunt.
