Incroyable!

Talk about determination, it looks like he's taking a pounding against those rocks at times.

My dog would have done that in his day but I would not let him. My personal opinion but I like my dog. A good dog will jump of a cliff if you let him.

That is not right IMHO. Why put your dog at peril over a couple ducks? Also, it looked like they guys were killing more ducks than the dogs could hope to retrieve in that water! It kinda pissed me off watching the whole thing. Those dogs are tough as hell though...

That video has been around for a couple of years. While it may look extremely dangerous, it is nothing that a young, strong, well trained retriever can't handle with relative safety. If the rocks were jagged it would be a different story.

It's a slick production complete with the dramatic music designed to get a specific reaction. The camera angle makes it look like more than it is.

You wouldn't throw a young, green dog into that situation but would instead train for it and introduce the dog to it in stages. Once they get comfortable with smaller swells they learn how to handle the big waves with ease and use the sea motion to their advantage.

Exactly - I have seen labs and GSP's swimming with their surfer owners in way rougher water than that - non of the dogs ever got into difficulty exiting on rocky shorelines - they learned very quickly to use the waves to body surf high on the safe exit points.

The biggest fear for the owners were sharks - lots of zambezis cruising around the back line in Jefferys bay and St Francis.

That vid has made the rounds. As any dog man worth his salt knows, a dog will kill its self trying to do it's job and to please its owner. It's up to us to see it doesn't and us who have to live with ourselves if we are wrong.

The title says "we all know Quebecers are tough but get a Loa of their dogs"

It should say "we all know Quebecers dont give a shit about anyone but them selves but here is the proof"

These dogs are from "Chenil de la Rivière Blanche", they are very large labs. A said before, a dog learns to play in the waves. A fit dog as no problem with that but it could kill a dog without proper training. This was filmed on the Saint-Lawrence coast close to my place.

Here are a few pics of friend's chessie in action. It was in calm waters and after a few retrieves he was exhausted.

Crazy video, personally I would never send my dogs out in water like that however it looks like the dogs are trained well and unharmed. I'll stick to hunting fields

Pretty damn impressive and scary, regardless of training, breed or whatever. Wonder what kind of attrition rate there is ??
Our "other breed" girl went for a dip in Davis Bay when she was a year or so old, waves were constantly a few feet when one freak wave hit her that probably broke @ 10 feet high. She popped out on shore looking like a drowned rat and wanted to go back for more. Nope, Daddy said no, scared the crap outta me. :icon_frow
