Out with the hounds last night and they managed to find the first 2 bears for me this season. It doesn't matter what the weather has been it seems around here the last week of April is about as early as they get out and about. A couple more weeks before the bears really show up.

The first bear was a 4-5 year old boar.

the second one was a 2-3 year old boar

Must be fun and the sound of the hounds must fill the forest. I love to hear that live sometime.

that looks fun. How are those dogs with kids? I know they make excellent hounds but do they make good family companions as well?

Lets just say we have a summer camp for kids. Every day all the hounds are let out to play with the kids. Say no more. Some hound guys claim this takes away from the ability of the hound by being socialized like this, but I have yet found a houndsman who thinks this way that can catch the game my dogs do with his unsocialized dogs.

I would suggest for anyone looking to get into hounds for the first time to buy a cur dog first they tend to take less training as far as far as obedience goes. Hounds tend to need more exercise and I don't mean going for a walk either.

Hey - are you around Tatlayoko and do you drive a green truck? I passed a guy on that road last weekend near the lake with a hound or two in the back and I thought immediately "Hey, is that Chilcotin Hillbilly"?

I drive a black truck, I am really the only one with hounds in the area. Flag me over next time you are up. Where you at the lake with an RV?

That's the type of dog I am talking about. Just make sure it is from real hunting parents.

Yeah, could have been black. I was driving my Tundra heading toward the lake Saturday mid-morning. Where you heading out? There was a hound standing up in the back and I think at least one more in a box in the box.

Yep that would have been me. Probably 5 more hounds without their heads sticking out.
