I've seen minimal info on the Sharktooth on HBC or elsewhere on the internet... this is part of the reason I am going there this summer. I just booked my flight into Dall Lake for the 29th of July. I have a pretty good idea of how I am going to hunt the range but I was wondering if anyone has any experience there they would care to share. I wouldn't mind bouncing my ideas off someone who has already been there. I would prefer PM's.

I realize that there are higher density areas to the east and north but I am pretty set on the Sharktooth.

Additionally, I have a tentative partner right now but if he bails I may be looking to fill the seat (likely hunt solo) into Dall Lake. Should have an answer in 3 weeks.

There is at least one guy on here that could tell you a few things;)

Very cool country. Lots of ups and downs. It's a bit of a haul from Dall to shark tooth vertically.

My father in-law hunted them decades ago. Never had any success with sheep because they were too busy packing out goats, bears, and I think caribou. If I remember correctly, at the time the one bear was way up there in the book. He always wanted to go back in there.

long ways to hike in

That was another thing he mentioned. A heck of a pack out, and if you know him, that is saying something.

I remember 25 years ago a single ram standing righ on top of shark tooth, when we flew over it. I also remember it being steep! You won't need to go that far....however, that's all I'm going to say:)

I like the OP's initiative and drive . . . you get back to Sharktooth and you will likely be alone (even if you had a partner to start with). The westerly edge of the range is worthy of a closer look.

If I was you I would focus on the proven Ram areas accessible from Dall, Denetiah and another lake in close proximity (funny but I can't recall the name?). The rams are where they always are, in the proven country. Fringe areas produce "fringer" results.

Yup, that's definitely goat looking country.

Hey 40incher - Geoskier was willing to do some R&D for the 🐑 brotherhood! 😄

I'm pretty set on that area. There is no written record of an ascent on Sharktooth and I was hoping to add that to the mix. Hearing about that ram on top stoked the fire more. I thought it would be pretty amazing to glass from the highest mountain in the area. I do have the mountaineering experience and I spent last summer working near Dease Lake and could see Sharktooth on clear days (140km away). I also canoed the Turnagain a while back and saw a glimpse of the sharktooth on a day hike. So although I want a sheep, I also want to see this mountain up close.

I have 2 weeks booked so if I am not seeing any sign I can always move to the east side of the lake towards Moody Lk. Either way, fitness won't be an issue as I will be clambering around the mountains north of Dease for 6 weeks leading up to the trip.

Some nice rams have come out of fringe areas. The journey is often more memorable than the ram itself . . . you need to make this trip happen.

Go for it. I know 3 guys who went in there a bunch of years ago and all came out with rams. One was a cranker

I am thinking the best way to hunt that mountain is not climbing it.....once you're on it, what you can see is very limited....the ram I saw was there about august 10th if that helps....I would imagine he spent the whole summer up there.

I would agree that climbing it wouldn't necessarily be the best way to hunt it. I do want to summit the mountain regardless though. My trips are rarely limited to just one sport.

If my memory serves me right..Gordon Eastman took a 40 plus incher...He said it was a perfect curl...He rolled the horns on the dock and it tracked straight..It was a very nice sheep...Me thinks that there isn't lots of sheep there ..but there are some very good genetics in the Sharktooth range..

Yes that was a very nice ram that Gordon Eastman shot but that was back in late 60's and a long ways east of the Sharktooths .

Good luck never a bad day Stone's sheep hunting .

I'd be very interested to see what you find out there. I have been looking at hunting in the vicinity of that mountain for a few years now but it is a tough one to access. Just imagine what a guy could accomplish in there if he had the summer and fall to skulk around looking for a sheep in there :) I'd offer my assistance but I already have summer/fall plans! Good Luck!

I was under the impression that Jack O'Connor took his big ram a number of miles east of Sharktooth as well. He may have shot more than 1 ram in the Northern Serenghetti but the one I know he did kill was well East of there.

Yep. He was outfitted from colt lk. Heard some horror stories about the traffic in that whole area last year.

Maybe some resident hunters packed in chain saws and did a bit of trail clearing ...........

I'm sure you can handle the extra ### but can you handle a grumpy old fart ???
Just hope you will be able to share a Stone's Sheep hunts with your boys like I have done a "few" times. Trust me they are absolute the best priceless memories even !
I might be able to come along and hang out at base camp and be a keeper of the flame .
