I would guess it is an optical illusion. The ear placed just right makes the antler appear palmated.

The buck in the 10th picture is the same buck with the little drop tine in the 7th pic

Hey Brian011:

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. It's nice to see the deer, but it's cool to see the cats. I got a lynx on mine last summer - first animal that turned up aside from the rabbit that tripped it repeatedly. Funny thing is that the rabbit seemed to survive the lynx all season. Both turned up a few times.

Last year was my first time using a trail cam and I took it down after we got our bull. I used the blue salt and the brown mineral lick. I don't know what worked best, or how long they lasted. I'll be going up to the area pretty soon to replace that cam and maybe another.

What are you using to attract them? Salt block or something else/additional? Any other advice for that would be great. Thanks!

At the one cam with most of the pics I had water softener salt from canadian tire, the animals seem to like it.
Ive also used the blue salt blocks and have had good success with them too.

Brian

What batteries were you using for the Simmons?? Did you leave the cam out all winter on the same batteries??

I really like Simmons for a cam; cheap, tough, takes great day time and Ok nightime picts and can run for a long time of 4 batteries.

Great winter time picts!! Thanks for posting!!

Cheers

i was just using Duracell batteries from Costco, I really like the Simmons cams too, I had that cam out from the start of December and when I checked it a couple days ago it was still taking pics and the battery life said 50%. It took 1716 pics through out that time.
They might not have quite the trigger distance as some cams but overall I think they are the best cams for your money. I am probably going to pick up a couple more of them.

The battery life in a camera is the main thing I look for now, as long as you get something like salt set up to get them to stick around, I think you will get picks of anything that walks by.

Thanks for those pics! I just bought a simmons camera. It is awesome to hear how great the battery life is. Is that the 4mp, 6mp or 7mp model, if you don't mind me asking?

I think this camera is the 4 mp one but I just bought a few of the 6 mp cams and they work great, so far this spring an summer I've had thousands of pics and still 100% battery life.
