pre season scouting was very productive. but April 15 came and went with only one gobble in the morning and nothing to show for the rest of the day, what seemed to be a hard break was just a reminder that sometimes you have to put the time in, and have a little luck on your side still,
the area that was scouted pre season was a bust opening week, we pulled the plug and were headed home empty handed, I made a quick stop to set up a trail cam, I stopped to make a few last minute calls, across the valley was a thunderous reply! raced back to my vehicle where my partner was having a nap, he woke up to me excitedly saying "we're hunting!"
10 minutes later we had a beauty tom show himself. he decided to hang up at about 40 yards from the decoy but luckily we were on the correct side , right beside where he was hung up. we found ourselves 15 feet away from him,
a tree blocked my shot, I had to spin around , up on my knees, now I was busted, he saw me, all my upland instincts kicked in....... a fast shot, success
