Not a biggie by any means but I had a fun day out. Got to use my new rapala magnum sturgeon rod and I brought my grandads pen 320gti out of retirement. I cant wait to hook into a big guy with this setup

Nice. Fished it twice now, lucky enough to hook a 6' great time. Seen a bigger one jump clean out of the water for no reason. less then 15 ft from the boat

Kool to see, I can remember when that fish would be legal!! lol Drift down just past the bridge same side, that fish processing plant has been their for 50 years they used to dump fish guts back in to the water, the migratory fish are coming in to the river now and know it was good for a free meal. Between their and the bridge footing a couple of deep holes and some big fish. Fish now before the volume of the river increases. good luck, thanks for sharing we used to catch 15 - 20 of them guys a day!!

I am spoiled. I have been sturgeon fishing since I was about 5 years old. Absolutely love it. It is by far my favourite kind of fishing. Its the feeling you get when you see the rod tip just give the tiniest little twitch and you set the hook HARD into what feels like a tree stump, and the reel starts to scream. I have fished for days and not had a bite before and my best day to date was 2 years ago we caught 17 fish and not 1 was under 6'... 4 of them were over 10'... Never experienced anything like that before and probably never will again.

^that sounds like a deam day. Im going to put as many hours into sturgeon as I can this year. I have fished for them as a teen from shore but last fall I hooked in to a 6' and the fire was ignited.

Its running a 2006 20hp yamaha. Its my old mans rig. As long as it doesnt leap onto the transom like in Jaws I think it should be alright lol. "You're going to need a bigger boat"

You are only going to be pulling as much weight as your drag will allow and I don't lift anything much bigger than that guy into the boat.

If you want pictures of anything over 6' you need to land them on shore. Steer clear of log booms and pilings. Have your anchor line on a large bouy so you can drop it quick if you hook a monster and are getting spooled. If the river is running and your bouy is too small it'll sink and you will have to wait for slack tide to get it back.

I'll be heading out in May for my first time trying to catch a sturgeon. I've been waiting a few years for this opportunity and am getting quite excited about giving it a try.

My dad is taking some buddies out today. Only having 2 decent rigs, I went over and completely dismantled a non working Penn gti 330 regreased all the drag washers and gears and reassembled. Works better than new now. I'll get the report tonight.

Yeah, I'd say that's a career day and would be hard to top for most mortals. I like sturgeon fishing, but after a couple of 6' fish, I am ready to call it a day or watch someone else land them.

Took a buddy from work out today who had never been. Was a beautiful day. Slow though. 3 fish caught, 1 was 4' and the other two were just over 3'. Lots of bites lost a couple had fun.

A buddy that tags them has tagged 60 fish in the last 2 and a half weeks and all were under 5' which is unusual because we always catch several in the 6' to 8' range this time of year.
