Went out yesterday to a new spot that I have been looking at on Google earth recently. Turned out to be better than I had hoped, found lots of sign but the whole time I was hiking through the nasty steep country all I could think was "how the hell do people ever find blacktail sheds in this stuff??"

Couple hours later I got a bit lost trying to find my way back to my truck, sliding my way down some precarious moss covered bluffs I almost tripped over these two. I have read that sometimes antlers will fall off at almost identical times but this was a little crazy! THis was exactly how I found them, I doubt he even had time to realize one fell off before the next did. My very first blacktail shed and even more mass and width than my first blacktail from last year

I should know this already but my memory is like a sieve, when is the blacktail rut around the squamish area? Nov 10-20?

And is there a time of the year that you leave your spots alone? Like when the fawns are dropping? If so, when is this?

Sep. cant come soon enough

Blacktail sheds are not easy to find. At times you get lucky and find a set laying side by side. My very first set of blacktail sheds were about 5' apart.

For Squamish I always think 2nd or 3rd week for the start of the rut, but I keep a close eye once nov starts. This year was tricky with the lack of snow. Deer were much higher up in my spots during the rut. Always fun to learn more though.

That's a good set you picked up. Bases are nice and thick indicating mature deer. And people say theres no deer near Squamish ;)

I would say a great find buds... And a good set to use as your first set for rattling this year. Everyone can buy a rattle bag but you found your own. First 4 point buck shed i found i used for rattle

FK man ... that is a nice buck , He wont be far ... I would have a sniff in there almost every stormy day I could. Stay out of there when its nice. Its probably his home or very close to but if you leave your scent in there he will leave.

You want lots of rain so your scent is covered and quickly washed away. If your into trail cams ... you might want to make an investment. If there is cell coverage a cam that sends pic to a phone would be ideal. Then you don't have to go in at all

You are really on to something there ... Good luck !

My thoughts on why the two antlers are this close together is that the buck shook his head and that's why they both dropped off at the same time .
There antlers on there head get itchy at this time of the year and if you ever have watched bucks at this time of the year they spar with one and the
other this could had happened why you found the two cast antlers this close together.

As for hunting an area in the GOS I hit an area that I know is productive I will head into this area throughout the entire open season think about it if you
don't keep going back you won't find your dream deer ,,BTD does have there fawns in late May ,,June and early July I will look for shed antlers till the end of May
the set of antlers look like they might score around the 100 mark..

Your area for the start of the rut will start around the secont week of Nov and will peter out in the first two weeks of Dec ,,,O ya congrats on your find..

That's a beauty set of BT sheds. Get a trail cam up in the area with a good view of a commonly used game trail!
