Danas recent guess the score thread, with the video clip threw off quite a few of us, I believe mostly because we couldnt see the 20 inches of trash in the clip. But it reminded me of a rack that I have, that I was also way out to lunch in my original guess. This little game is a great education process for us all, and im posting this one cuz it threw me a curve ball at first, so guess away guys. A couple facts here, this buck has an outside spread of 36" and hes as clean as can be! (no hidden cheaters)

Notice my arms, nicely bent guys!

Wow. Monster. Without missin a beat my safety's off an I'm squeezing. I can't even give you a guess. I want to say 185-190 but I just think hes bigger than that. Aw what the hell. 195 gross, 192 net.

Good G-2 not really strong G-3 weak G4, not overly heavy, I would say mid to high 170's.

Looks like a nice wide one.

...hmmm

174 7/8 Net. The rack is so symmetrical it would be a shame to not net that sucker!

177. Too bad his spread credit will get docked by his main beams. Impressive rack for sure.

195 Gr...Maybe 190 Net :|

Tinney

Everyone's lower than me...hmm....nah I'm still goin with my original call. He's decent thick, crazy wide, and what he lacks in length he makes up in mass. 195 gross, 192 net. I like it a lot. Clean as a whistle.

Mark_S
02-19-2007, 01:18 PM
Well..... Would I pull the trigger? absolutely.

To me I'd say, mainbeams look a little on the short side from that angle and not totally even. The forks are not terribly deep and I can see there is going to be side to side deductions there.

I Don't think he breaks 195 gross. I think he nets in the mid 180's

I might be judging those forks a little to harshly though. Only one way to tell for sure.....BOOOOM

Thats about how the logic would go in the field.

185" gross 183" net

dana
02-19-2007, 04:40 PM
G4's are weak. G1's are almost non-existant. Mght be able to squeeze an inch out them, might not. I'd say this buck is in the mid 170's ballpark. Width is nice, but it doesn't add up in the score.

I think you're missing some measurements. Add all measurements Inside spread, main beam length left and right. G1, G2, G3, G4, left and right, H1,H2,H3,H4, left and right and this will be your gross and you'll have to guess at the differences.

JMac

Gross 174 with about 4.5 inches of deductions. Hey guys don't let the outside spread of 36 fool you. That means nothing, it's the inside spread on the main beam which counts and i bet that is about 23 inches. Nice even buck though.

I guess the winner is traker!
All right guys, He netted 167, i cant find the original score sheet on him, and i have the rack in storage right now, so i give ya all the specs. I think it grossed about 173. The bucks only real strong point is the G2, then its down hill from there! I didnt shoot him, it was hanging on the side of a shed where my buddy rented. He, nor the owner, were hunters and the house was to be torn down, so i got permission from the owner to snag it. I do know it was shot on kelownas westside, about 15 years ago! When i first saw it (and knew a little less about scoring) I too thought it was some huge record book buck. Thats why i posted it, because its so decieving! A classic example of why wide doesnt mean big score.
Would still be a trophy in my crosshairs anyday!!!!!

Elkguide, my avtar buck is old news around here, but your kinda new, so heres the skinney on him.
I slammed him in reg. 5 in 2004 nov.15. He grossed 198, and netted
195 2/8 official! He makes the all-time boone books, and was the #25 typical mule deer in the BC books in feb 2005! Also won first place in the 100 mile big buck contest in 2005 out of 180 hunters!

Hey it's a Killer Mount no doubt......I'm just not sure about the "open mouth ?" Definately different :)

Threw me off abit when I 1st looked at the Pic, It's Probably not the most Flattering angle for the mount either though.
At any rate You're Happy and it's a Great Trophy 8)
