shotgun barrel length

So I'm just wondering what length barrel people are using for grouse? Mostly as a gun carried on an ATV. I find my weatherby semi auto is kind of long (but my favourite) I do have a mossberg with an 18.5" arrel will that be too short for grouse? Its a case of seeing them at the side of the road while I'm out for deer.
It will be mounted in the grips on the front rack while my 30-06 is in the gun boot

i would suggest measuring a pattern from that 18.5 barrel. i have that mossberg combo and it is a pretty wide scatter from about 10 yards. i think it could be effective for grouse if you don't mind spitting out a few pellets. i have the short barrel on with 00buck or slugs as a camp gun.

I use a 12 guage coach, 18'' barrel easily carried perpendicular to ground so your not dragging it in the dirt

I've tried shooting skeet with my 18.5 barrel and you've gotta be pretty quick to hit them, I've only hit skeet within about 15 yards with the short barrel anything over that and I've had no luck. If you were in the market for something new when I was at the outdoor show I was looking at the savage 22/410 it's nice and compact and right around $300 I think.
