Sure there are other sites devoted to hunting predators but many of us don't get the time to hit multiple websites.
I'm sure there are successful predator hunters out there who don't bother to post up a yote shot here..and a yote shot and there.
Please share your 2014 pictures and tactics(calls....calling sequences....etc) so we can all learn from each other. Even share your stories where they got away so that others may help so they don't get away next time.

late December, killed my first Lynx, 130y shot with 223. Called with Foxpro Firestorm with Wacky WOodpecker

early January, called in to 150y and first kill with the 300AAC (110gr Vmax). Foxpro with rabbit distress and lone coyote howl.

Nice pussy, Bartel!!

Went out a couple times in early jan with zero success or responses(other than one long distance answer when the kid and I were out with OSW).
Hiked in to pull a couple tcams and tried a couple calling sequences. No responses but I did have 3 sequences of pictures of a cougar(same one).....cougar hounds and houndsmen. Cougar appeared again on cam the next day still alive and kicking:-D.

Went out Saturday morning and drove up a road a short distance jumped out and hiked and tried the locator howls on the Foxpro. Didn't get an immediate response so I walked to the edge of a knoll and peeked over and saw a new house. Bailed back to the vehicle and drove as far as I could, jumped out and started hiking. Then I heard the challenge howls start up from where I had just came from. Back to the vehicle and drove within a couple hundred yards of the main road.

Set up and tried some fawn-in-distress calls...nothing..waited....then tried some challenge howls...waited...still nothing. Decided to switch it up and try the pup-in-distress call. I had just muted the call and all of a sudden I see a brown streak below me heading full speed right at the call....barking its face off!!!I raised the rifle and had no shot due to trees....then the dog moved forward barking and finally it gave me the shot I needed...."click". Shite. forgot to load the rifle when I left the vehicle. Managed to get 2 rounds into the rifle but when I looked up it was gone. Fired up the pup-in-distress again and the brown streak came flying back down the hill absolutely going ballistic! Managed to sneak one thru the branches and he died 7' from the call.

I found this coyote in some willow out in a fairly open field, she thought at 330 yards that she was hidden. Like many before her she was wrong. It was a nice sunny day, I find many coyotes bed in the semi open on sunny days, in the afternoon. I find in the last few years dwindling success in calling them in so now I just find them and hunt them down. River valleys, marshes, beaver ponds, cattails, willow flats, all good places to glass. Some times the only part you see is the tips of their ears.
In some remote areas you can still call back a yote that's already seen you so that being said always have a distress call at arms length, even if your in a vehicle!

Good on you for just attempting to shaft a yote! It's high on my want to do list.
Did you have use a decoy as well?? I'm looking to get one(fox jack2 and think it will up the odds for success with archery gear.

I had the decoy and one of the yotes charged it while it was off. If I saw them coming it would have been a 15-20 yard shot on the one that charged. They where nasty looking lower mainland dog, maingie with little whips for tails

Usually don't take many pics but was doing some bullet testing this winter and needed to show expansion....sorry about the messier ones

Dogs are mostly taken by spot and stalk or calling with a combo of FoxPro and mouth calls. Ill hike or drive and spot them, just keep cruising past and devise a plan of attack. circle with the wind try and get above them and close enough to shoot.

Calling is usually a lone coyote howl to get their attention and then some kind of dying critter. really liking the blacktail fawn and blacktail doe in distress this year.

Calling crosswind with a good view of your downwind, as they will circle on ya especially if your using a decoy.

Picked up another stray after work today.
Set up in an area where I've killed dogs before.
Started with locator and a pack immediately lit up.
Went to challenge howls....
Then pup-in-distress........
Didn't take long for a dog to appear right behind the call...but he was on the wrong side of the fence.
Then I heard something coming in from my right.......turned and a saw a yote be-lining for the call only 15 yards away....then he cut my wind and bolted. Running shot from the 7mm-08 and he dropped like a sack of hammers.

Don't have a dedicated pred gun...but I see one in my near future:). Using 120gn TTSXs out of my daughter's Model Seven 7mm-08 compact....with reduced loads. Handy little iron!
Slightly more fur friendly than my .270.:-D

Yap, 223. I modified the magazine to allow seating the longer bullets out to rifling (my OAL is 2.45 inches) and got the trigger down to 18 ounces and that's it. As TB says they all seem to shoot very well....

3 coyotes were out in a clearing on the righthand side of the road. I bumped it in neutral, stomped the e-brake and bailed out with my rifle. The back of the truck slid a little sideways so the truck was crooked. My dad was with me, so shooting on his side, our agreement is that I shoot from the front and not the back and he stays by his door. Don't want to "Pulp Fiction" anybody.

The first shot was a freebee with a standing coyote. Then it got loud as they took off back to the right. I was shooting across the truck in front of the window, and was apparently too close to it:) Happens every year.

This was the result.

Haha thanks! I can't claim all three though, my Dad got one, he's tough to compete with!

Was deer hunting that day so I was using a Benelli 30-06 with 150SST's (pictured above on the wolf)

After deer/moose/elk season, and preds only, I use a Benelli MR1 223 with Beowulf mags (pictured above on the single coyote)

As far as techniques, what ever it takes. I hunt on lots of farms/ranches where coyotes always hang out. Also I look for kills out in the bush an keep checking those spots. My sidekick has a foxpro, but we've only called in one with it and dodged everything we threw at it:) Have done well in the past on ski-doo but mine is out of commission for this season, which is why I haven't had as much luck lately.

If I had to hunt coyotes with a 22lr, I'd use CCI stingers. They're 1640fps and the bullets hold together and penetrate very well.

I'd rather not use my .270 or .338 and don't wanna buy a specific dog killer so the 10/22 may have to suffice.

If you're on a farm shooting them close the 22 is ok.

If you're going out where you might get a shot at a wolf I'd run a 270 without question. If you reload you can even load up some light stuff, like a vmax 110grn).

No exit pic on this guy. Exits are about the size of a quarter. At the speed I'm pushing them out of the 6.5 x 47 they aren't really explosive enough for coyotes. You have to be very precise with your shooting or you will have a runner, luckily the rifle is a very good shooter.

I prefer Amax, a bit bigger exit hole but very few runners......

out for half a day, up at 4:30am and hit the open country. Its calving time.....

First 2 were a double, 3rd was a spot and stalk with a wee bit of rodent distress once I was close but couldn't see everything.... 22-250 with 55gr Ballistic Tips

Well done, Paw!
I'm envious of the open yote country!
I see your need for a rifle to be able to spit out a bullet a long ways.

OSW and I had 2 coming in yesterday am but they shut up and gave us the slip.
i think they might be catching on to the pressure.
Time to hit a new area.

Went out today and got busted on the way in. Snow was so crunchy that I think I would have made less noise with a set of pots and pans tied to my ass.

Paw, if you are indeed where I think you are I would definitely be into doubling up next weekend. New 22-250 should be here early next week and will need a break in. :-D

Yap, shots can get stretchy in that big grass... hard to see the little boogers this time of year too, talk about cammo...

Keep on them, they'll make a mistake sooner or later...

Great pics guys. I have not been out once yet chasing doggies this year. I'll get back at it next winter for sure. Keep the pics coming!
I was ice fishing at Tunkwa last week and the dogs were going crazy at times. Howling back and forth across the lake. It sure made me want to get after them. Love was in the air for sure.

They are still out there boys!!! only a week and a half left in this country to hammer them before lambs, fawns and moose calves start to drop. This bitch was a calf killer, she'd chewed up a newborn angus, took me a couple of days but she's out of the game.

We must have received that pic 10 times to Wolftracker.

Each story and location different.

"My buddy shot it", "CO got it behind a school in Alberta"

Recognized it immediately even with the starred out face

Not sure but someone decided to add it to that email...at least the first one I first received.
I also receive it at work but this time it was shot a little further up the hill by Crystal Mtn and the guy who shot it even worked at Cavalle Tire.
Some people have too much time! LOL!
