:confused:Was wondering if anyone had any good deer hunting experiences in region 6.
i didn't get out more than 1 time this year (3 grouse, and that's it:cry:) and I'd love to hear stories from people who've been out there.

I am a terrible deer hunter and like to blame the lack of deer in this area, especially on crown land. Would like to see what others have to say.

Depends where you are in region 6. Pretty tough go around Terrace, gets better towards Smithers\ Houston area.

It is pretty tough to get deer in the Terrace area, I have tried for years and not been able to do it. There are a few here but not very easy to find, there are more deer towards Prince Rupert and then over towards Smithers.

I've lived here in Smithers for 20 years and shot a few deer, but most have been in fields! Some years we would see just nothing on crown land and as usual, the farmers field has a couple big bucks. This year, though, we saw more bucks around our house than ever. My son got a spike, and my best friend got a really nice four pointer. It's really hard to hunt them because they are very sparse on crown land. i understand there are a few places where there are more, but man is it hard to find them!

I did a nice hunt near Francois lake this year and there were piles of deer, but as usual they were eating the farmers greens!

I'm not complaining as our family got a deer the five out of the last 6 years.

Those are AMAZING!!! :-D

I live in Terrace and work in the Nass. Someone told me that deer can sometimes be found near the tidal areas down river. Also, report of whitetail up around the back of Nass Camp.

I'm new to hunting ( the grouse I shot last year are the only animals I've ever shot), and would be interested in any pointers that anyone would want to share with a 'newbie'.

being originally from the Gulf Islands, I'm used to the woods being just ugly with deer.

Yeah, I've seen deer in the Houston/Smithers area . . .

In the fields . . .

On private land . . .

Without my gun . . .

out of season.

Damn! Guess they wouldn't call it "hunting" if it were easy. :-/

Our group saw 2 deer in 7 days (1 buck and 1 small doe) hunting Moose near Vanderhoof.

Wasn't even a lot of scat around while walking.

I almost have hit a couple does down around china bar on the skeena. Seen a moose swimming across the tidal flats 2 summers ago as well. But that was me driving Terrace to Rupert once a week.

Also seen lota of deer shit and game trails along the skeena last fall. But the brush was so thick you'd probably never see them... well I wasn't really looking for them.
