Gotta try and get a few of you guys off the couch over the next few weeks.
Spring bear is a long way off, lots of hunting/shooting opportunities right now.
Anyways, my BIL (Brother in Law) got drawn for Elk, so off we went. Had a hot spot lined up with permission! Giggitty giggitty!
Parked the truck at the bridge and walked up the creek on the ice till we hit the edge of his fields. Never saw any tracks but coyote in the fresh skiff of snow. Started along the edge, road hunting, and wow a nice big, fresh wolf track heading the same way, just ahead of us.
Agreed that if the wolf was spotted we'd bring Thunder down upon the Valley.
Got "the feeling"........
After 1/4 mile or so the BIL spotted the Wolf, 200 yards off (ranged it after the shot). We'd jumped him from his bed and now he was on the run. BIL is a "OneShotEthicalShotOnly" hunter and was going to wait for it to stop before he'd shoot. Not me, not with wolves, I'm into action.
Shouldered my rifle, started with the crosshairs behind him, smoothly pulled them thru him and when the hit the front of him, broke the trigger. He'd piled right up and slid a good 20 feet with his head folded right underneath him. I was very disappointed I didn't get to dump the mag on my semi auto.
Had to drag him 2k back to the truck with a hockey shoelace I always have in my pocket when hunting.

Any guesses on Nose to tip of Tail, or Lbs? Was measured and weighed.
The gun on it is a 44" long Benelli R1
Here he is hanging in the skinning shack,
