This fly is my number 1 leech pattern.
When I first created it I was testing it at a lake outside of town. I started casting from shore, a few people walked by before jumping into their boats and said no one ever catches anything nice fish from shore. Well guess what, the red lightning leech proved them wrong and I caught this beauty of a rainbow trout (yes its a rainbow). And continued to catch fish from shore all year. This fly has proven itself over and over

As I mentioned, not a fly fisherman anymore- but your fly threads are great. Nice to see such a fine contribution to the fishing forum! :)

Thanks for the step by step. What is it you are doing to the angel hair in Post #5. Not familiar with this. Are you just straightening it? Thanks!

DITTO, I usually wait a for a while longer to start tying but your definitely giving me the urge to get going. Very informative and detailed how to tie even for the very novice out there.

In post #5 I am using a razor blade and trimming the angel hair. I use the razer blade as its easier to trim in layers so it looks more natural. Scissors gives it to even and straight of a cut

I saw this one on a different website last year, I used the same red and green. Its a nice easy tie, that produces.

Awesome as usual Muskrat. That fish is amazing. Are there cutthroat in that system as well? Wondering about the possibility of a "Cut-bow". The spots on that thing are incredible!

I was thinking the same thing but the nearest cutthroats were quite a ways away. Thats was the only rainbow with those looks I ever caught out of that lake
