there's an endless choice out there.
here's the ones I use.

for my dry flies, I just use the standard improved clinch knot.
http://content.artofmanliness.com/uploads//2010/12/clinchknot.jpg (http://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=EALUq2ezQ7rhoM&tbnid=FL-DSBrcQX7NVM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.artofmanliness.com%2F2010%2F1 2%2F16%2F3-knots-every-fisherman-should-know%2F&ei=mpjyUsa2OoneoATF44CYAQ&bvm=bv.60799247,d.cGU&psig=AFQjCNHuHl4ISExZ0a_EkqfzI7ZDVB5BeQ&ust=1391715814969340)
I really don't care for it though but it's engrained in my memory and just happens.

for my trolling flies, on the bigger lakes, I prefer to use a loop knot.
I just find that it allows the fly to have a more natural motion.
and i've found it 100% makes a difference.
again, there are numerous versions.
here's the one I use.
http://floridasportfishing.com/magazine/images/stories/fly-fishing-knots-5ai.jpg (http://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=pyirsueFvZVXiM&tbnid=M4MP8lnTqlbO9M:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffloridasportfishing.com%2Fmagazin e%2Ffly-fishing-florida%2Fcomforting-connections.html&ei=O5nyUu7sPILmoATznYHIBw&bvm=bv.60799247,d.cGU&psig=AFQjCNHuHl4ISExZ0a_EkqfzI7ZDVB5BeQ&ust=1391715814969340)
I use it because it's very fast and simple.
and as far as strength, it's held up to many large, hard-fighting rainbows.
i'm sure there's stronger ones, but this has worked flawlessly for me.

what are some of your favs?

my favourite site for knots, of all types and for all situations, is grog's knots.
there's a great selection and they have really good walk-throughs showing how to tie them.

I use the loop as well for all. Especially with smaller chronies. just gives them that life..

Every once in a while when I'm bored with the improved clinch knot I use the perfection loop for the fly.
Gives it a lot of wiggle.

I try to use only a few knots when fishing. Keeping it simple as much as possible.

#1 Improved clinch for everything I can possibly use it.
#2 Palomar for a few things
#3 Perfection loop
#4 Blood knot the odd time.

I don't use fluorocarbon or braid.

I love the non-slip loop knot. Use it whenever I can and find it quicker and easier to tie than the improved cinch knot. Works absolutely fine with Flouro.

I was on the Furreled leader kick for a while... there was a river i fished where you could not worry about the "Vision" aspect of them... casted really nice and was easy to deal with... havent gone back to them once that leader died...

But..
palomar from Backing to line... Leader loop ( eithe manufacture welded into the line or i build them on there myself0 from line to leader... Surgeons knot from leader to tippett... and imp sinch to fly

really?
I find that knots are much smoother with it.
I always run about ten feet of fluoro on the end of the flyrod and tie to it.

For nymphs n such I use the clinch knot.

When fishing moving water a not slip loop knot is the way to go. It presents a nice profile of the fly.

I learned the turtle knot recently from some old steel headers up here. Nice direct pull on the fly gives good action in current. Make sure you leave a big enough loop so that you can get it over your fly can be a bit of a pain with cold hands.

You using that SeaGuar in 10 lb you posted after this?
i only used Fluro in 2-6lb tippett stuff... and YEARS ago 25lb when i was guiding..
i never liked it,,, but maybe its changed???

you used to be able to "Feel" the knot on rough surface like... as you tightened it... and the memory of the line at that point curled it... used to be bad for knots too....

yup.
I think I use 10 or 12 lb.
up to 14 lb rainbows, dollies, and you never know what size a laker might be.

YES definitely, just the friction from pulling the knot tight with weaken the line or snap it instantly

san diego jam knot is a great knot, not yet mentioned here, or reverse clinch, whatever you prefer to call it

for line splices, I find the blood knot, double uni and surgeon knots to be good with mono/fluoro, but for braid to mono/fluoro connections I like the improved Albright

where the regs allow it, dropper knot is great for double fly rigs, running a small nymph below a big hopper pattern is deadly, but 'knot' in BC lol

fluoro has improved a lot since I first started using it, but I only use the leader material, stay away from the blended mainline stuff

I like the perfection loop for everything usually. Adds some more up and down action on the fly. I usually go about my day methodically out there, as I am out there to relax. If my hands get frozen i use a improved clinch knot

I use the Duncan loop knot for damsels, leeches, chironos and probably a couple others that I'm not thinking about right now. the regular not for everything else. I find I use a loop knot when I'm using bucktails as well, because sometimes the hook's eye is bigger than I like tying 12 pound test to.

Years and years ago one of Ray Mac's Sons showed me how to tie a leader onto my fly line so the leader comes perfectly out the end of the fly line. I normally tie about two feet of leader on at the first of the season, then clip the leader each time I change the tapered line, works great, and looks good too! Can't remember the name of the knot thou?
