2013 mule deer!

so I know this is very late but have been very busy at work.so I am posting this now, so I got 4 of us together and we headed out on oct 3 for the first any buck weekend.it was me my 2 friends and my brother we went out to reg 3 where I heard the bucks were running around pretty good.my brother has never harvested a buck and I just got my first last year so my first priority was to get my brother a deer.so I headed out first from region 5 with my truck and all my gear and trailer and one of my buddies.my brother was headed up later at night after he got off work as well as my other friend when he got off work. so on my way in the logging trucks where finishing up the day so It was a slow kinda scary drive out to where we wanted to set up camp about 29kms up the logging road.so on the way in a seen a decent 2 point that would have been perfect for my brother for his first deer but he was still driving up from the coast and it was to early in the weekend for me to shoot something this small I told myself I wanted a 3 point or bigger but at the end of the day I was there for meat. but I wanted my brother to be there for my harvest.my friend didn't want something that small right off the bat so we watched it for about 20 mins with 4 does and continued on are way to camp to set up.we got there about 230-3 in the afternoon. set up mostly in the dark so that day was a right off, we sat around the camp fire and bullshitted for while and off to bed we went. we whoke up in the morning and my brother and my other friend were showing up later that night so it was just me and my buddy so off we went since this was Friday and the logging trucks were still working we had to be carefull and try to stay off the main roads in was pretty slow all day only saw a couple does all day but as soon as the afternoon hit and the logging trucks we off the road we started seeing deer after deer than all of a sudden buck after buck than we come around the corner and see a decent size deer in a little skidder trail just off the road so me ad my buddy jump out and I lift my gun up on the deer and see that it looks decent and I see its a 4x3 from what I can see and farely wide so I click off my safety and all of a sudden hear a loud air horn and see a loaded logging truck ripping towards me soi run off the road he's about 50 feet from me on a decent size downward hill and the cloud of dust is so big it takes 3-4 minutes for the dstto settle so I jump back in the truck move it was off the road just in case and lock it up and start walking into this skidder trail that my buddy has already started walking down I catch up to him. He signs to me to get low and be quiet I am about 70 yards from him in the loudest skidder trail we could find every step you cracked about 10 branches I notice that I see the buck and about 7 does with him I signal to my buddy but he is telling me to go over to him and I see he doesn't have his binos on him. So I began my hike to him as low as I could get even army crawling at some points I get over to him by than the deer have moved to just barely in site I watch it and confirm its a nice size and a 4x3 jut as my buddy is about to shoot a doe goes into of it and they all walk out of site we try to sneak up to eat and as we come to the horizon we could last see it at we notice it goes straight downhill on the other side and we see them jumping a fence and making there way down. we go after them and get to the fence and know that it is only a cattle guard fence we get over it and track the deer for about 10 minutes we don't see them at all but keep tracking and just than my buddy says get down and I look at him and see where he is looking and start to glass I see nothing. he says I see the buck I say where I don't even see a deer! than I see a doe and than another he says im taking the shot I see the buck and I say no they are doe's he says no its a buck on the other side I say I cant see him he says 100 percent its the buck I say than if you sure take the shot just than I hear a big boom and see the 2 does go running he yells I smoked him and say man I hope so cause I see nothing but does we hike down there as about 85-90 yard shot in really really thick timber. we get down to where he shot the buck and I see nothing no blood no tracks of a deer running nothing I said dude did you hit him he said yes 100 percent less I said well lets spread out and look and after about 5 mins I see blood and tracks barrelling down the hill we start following it and you can see the deer tracks falling and tripping down the hill and getting back up and running more we follow this for about 15 mins and than we find the buck laying there and of course we start celebrating and than realize we left are backpacks and camera and knifes and everything in the truck in the spure of the moment. we have hiked like 45 mins in total and knew we had hike back up hill and grab our stuff than back down field dress it and hike it back and where the deer layed to rest was about 100 yards from a cliff not a big cliff but nothing you would wanna hike up or down.so we followed the ridge of it and we see road after about 50 yards I was like than god so we hiked up the road for 15 mins got to the truck and drove it back down after this we are so drained and tired.so we get there and my friend quides me in and we end up getting the truck about 90 yards from the buck. so we field dress it and load it up and start the drive back to camp.to hang it for the night and wait for my brother and my other friend to arrive. here are some pics from this buck my buddy got!

so that was Friday.my brother and my other friend showed up later that nigt saw the buck we had got and they got really excited about the weekend we had till Monday to get 3 more people tagged out so we all went to bed early and whoke up early with 2 people per vehicle me an my brother went one way and my buddy and other friend went another we didn't see anything all day again until later in the afternoon and we were going on the main road that always had good buck activity just before dark so we cruised up there with about an 2 hrs left until we had to meet are buddies back at camp and until dark. so we cruised up the road for about 45 mins and than turned around and started heading back towards camp and we see a lot of traffic coming back up the road we are going down. so I start going a little bit faster since the vehicles would have scared anything off the road so I am going along pretty good and I see a few more trucks going by and out of no where my brother yells stop and I put the brakes on and he says get out I just saw the biggest deer in my life(he hasn't hunted much)so I say where I don't see anything no trusting him at this point so instead of getting out I put the truck in reverse and start going back and im like man I see nothing I think you were mistaken than I see a pretty decent deer would be the biggest one for me dince I got a smaller 2 point last year as my first deer. so I jump out and grab my gun and I notice the deer is just kinda purched up on a hill bedded down about 25 yards off the road and watching all the trucks drive by him so I put my gun up and watch him not wanting to shoot him as he is bedded down and after 5 mins I couldn't take it anymore and I see the look on his face like he is about to get up. So not wanting to let him get away I decide to take the shot and just as I am taking the shot the deer gets up and I make a horrible shot and shoot him in elbow and he runs off I wasn't a happy guy than cause I didn't want to have a wounded animal out there so I run after him and see that he has run about 10 yards and is just looking at me so I shoot him right behind the shoulder and he falls like a sack of potatoes and he was done after that I got really excited realizing that I had just shot the biggest deer yet of my hunting career and with my brother there with me I couldn't be happier! so we field dress it and throw it in the truck and drive down to camp to skin it out and show and meet my other two buddies.

A good weekend

so we go to sleep and whake up the next morning and head out to find my brother a buck we search and search and cant find anything so we decide to go the other way and head back down past camp towards the highway so we head that way go down some side roads and see a few deer and I am glassing and I see that one is a small spiker and my brother just wants his fist buck and meat for him and his wife so I tell him and he jumps out makes a perfect shot shot and the buck drops about 30 yards away from where he shot it and about 20 yards off the road I couldn't be happier with him I had the best hunting weekend of my life and cant wait to get out again next year this is what hunting is all about family, friends and good times with some meat in the freezer 3 out of 4 of us tagged and and the oter buddy missed a 2 pointat about 30 yards lol so all in all an awesome weekend had a blast that's for reading my story cant wait to put up more trail cam photos and more stories for this year!
