I'm sure if you look hard at those pics you'll see huge holes in those Danners. They really hold together great. For that kind of money you'd think they could last longer than a year and a half.

you can say that again
I used to go through 2 or 3 pairs of boots a year (i dig irrigation) I'm now on my 4 th year of my vibergs and they still are as good as new not to mention the comfiest boots I've ever onwed and they can be water-proofed!

I've had numerous pairs of Vibergs over the years for work. And I did have a pair of Viberg Hiking Boots that lasted me 6 years. They were tuff as nails but the comfort level wasn't there. I had every intention to buy another pair the day I bought the Danners. Same price but I happened to put my foot in the Danner and it was like comparing a Air Jordon to a regular running shoe. So I bought the Danners and lived to really regret it. They blew apart in 6 months and I was babying them. I had them repaired and then the leather blew out on me. After a year and a half my feet were sticking out of the holes.
Right now I'm in Schnee Sheep Hunters. I think I may have found a boot that is both comfortable and durable. Heck, I've been wearing them everyday since Aug, even using them as my winter boot. Even in -30 my feet felt pretty damn good. Couldn't say that about the Vibergs. -5 with some snow and you swore your feet were blocks of ice.

Funny I found Vibergs really comfy, I wear my boots almost daily as they are as nice or nicer than shoes. I do buy a half size over and put in a custom sole though. The temp thing too, I use Half and halfs with bambas and Woolies and they went through the winter no problem.

Try a pair of Scarpa Super Manta 4's ... bombproof boots (hard to find now)!

I wear'em down to -25 with comfort... had'em on for a day in -38... little too cold though.

I liek my Viberg Insulated hunter boots quite abit, as they actually FIT me (4EEEE=Extra Width)

But I can't seem to keep them waterproof for very long, despite slathering on gloms and gloms of Nik Wax...

I'm a bit scared to try Loggers oil or sno seal in case of rotten seams..Any advice form previous Viberg owners?

They dont' offer too much ankle support though, so I have a pair of Van Gorkum boots on the way. Shoudl be here soon, actually.8-)

Gatehouse, I use sno-seal on my boots, my last pair of Vibergs went for 4.5 years doing bush work, hunting, and traveling.
I don't use their hunter style but instead their work boots. This is the boot I am currently using.

If its in the winter I use these

Fisherdude,
My glass is a little bit better than Tasco. I betcha my B&L's combined with my Leupold Compact have glassed up more trophy class bucks than most of the highend glass that is owned on this site. Even with glass you still have to pound the leather especially when you spend the majority of the time hunting steep timber. I can tell ya the Vibergs I owned were called 'Loggers' and they were a hard heavy boot with great vibram soles. Had to get them resoled twice!!! I have blown out my share of boots since then. Was given a pair of brand new Rockys, blew them out in 1 day of shed hunting. 1 day!!!! Had to ribbon the shit out of them with flagging ribbon just to keep my feet from falling out of them. I was given a slightly used pair of Meindles. Had a mule deer client from AZ and he was appauled at the shape of my 'so called' new Danners. He sent me the Meindles in the mail. They had only been used in the deserts of AZ and had never seen moisture of any kind. Looked pretty much brand new when I got them. Blew them out in 6 months. The soles fell right off. If you want to kill big bucks like MnT, you better get off your ass and start pounding the leather. I can buy a lot of boots for a price of a quad. ;)

Try washing your feet once in a while maybe?

I joke around about the quad a lot on here, but in "real life" I put lots of miles on my feet...more than most but not as many as some since I blew my knee out. The boys at the boot shop called me a "high miler" when I plunked the 3rd set of Danners (leather/cordura crap) on the counter for warranty. I can still make some young pups sweat trying to follow me through the bush. ;-)

I'll second your experience with the Rockies, I wondered what that black stuff was on the trail as I followed my buddy up a steep hill...turns out it was chunks of Rocky soles. Now that I've gone to the full-grain all leather Danner Santiams (so has my buddy after his Rocky fiasco), I'm sold on their durability and comfort. They also "work" with my pronating to keep my knee in good shape.
