Hi everyone,

Bare with me here.. I have two questions... I moved to AB some years ago and began hunting post move, so i'm very familiar with my AB regulations, however I have a little brother who still lives in BC with my parents, who's recently taken an interest in shooting and hunting. He's been to the range and done some target shooting, and while he's nowhere near ready, he would one day like to begin Hunting (Upland and Big Game most likely). He's currently 10, what are the regulations for ages in terms of the legal age for a youth license, and what sort of courses would he need to complete in order to achieve the youth license?

That being said, what would *I* need to do in order to be able to legally hunt in BC now that i'm an Alberta resident, and hold all my necessary licenses in AB? If it wasn't clear, I am a legal adult.. I have my FAC + all my necessary Alberta licenses for hunting..

for a youth to hunt in BC they have to be 10 year old, they can hunt under the youth license witch allows them to hunt off of any one license over 19 (I believe) or they can take the Core course witch will give them they're own hunting #.

as for out of province hunt in BC I believe u need a guide outfit to hunt with, but I may be wrong i'm not to sure about that area :?

Thanks so much for your help Sarg. Any idea where I can find the info to back up the Youth information? Sorry -- i'm not at all familiar with the BC Regulations books, etc.

You could hunt upland game in BC without a guide, for big game you need to hire a guide or have a Bc hunter apply for accompanied hunt for you.

Perfect, thank you for that. How old does he have to be to do the CORE?

You can be 10 or turning 10 that calendar year to take the CORE. Once a youth passes the CORE Course, he or she is able to get their own hunter number, and has full hunting privileges in the province - provided they are under the supervision of an adult with a valid PAL.

Go on line to env.gov.bc.ca and search around for the current (2012-2014) hunting & trapping regulations.
Find info re the 10 year old as well as how one of your relatives can get a special licence to be your 'guide'.
