Inspired by coach and rocksteady... I usually do threads for each individual outing. But I figured I'd cram it all into one pie hole.

Starting out with some Ice fishing. For some reason it's hard to get up at 4:00am to go ice fishing. But I have no problems getting up at oh dark thirty during hunting season.

Anyways... A couple of friends of a friend of mine had gone out ice fishing and caught a big 3 pound rainbow. They told us they caught it at Macky lake. There's no macky lake near us. Macky is short for another lake. We narrowed it down to two different lakes. Both of which I've never fished.

So we picked one and got out there about 11. I had my 22-250 incase we seen any dogs. We grabbed our gear and found some frozen over holes. So we bored them out again. As we were re-drilling the holes. A good fellow came walking out asking how the fishing was. We told them we were just setting up.

I didn't think much of it at first, I thought it was just another fisherman wondering if he should set up as well, or just head to another lake down the road. But then he said "do you know who I am?". Then I had clued in he was a CO. He seen my rifle and asked why I had it. I told him it was for an off chance we seen a yote or a wolf. We had crossed through a forestry recreation site. He asked me if I knew they law about the discharge of firearms in a forestry rec site. I told him there's no discharge of firearms. He said "technically you aren't in the forestry site".

So he checked our licenses and everything, told us the bite has been off and on, and he's seen some football brookies come out the lake we were fishing. All was good and he headed off and we finally got down to fishing.

Fishing was slow. I seen one big one swimming around my hook, but he wasn't interested. We noticed lots of shrimp swimming around our holes. We toughed it out an hour before dark and then took the long way out for a chance to do some shooting. We didn't see anything.

A few days later I finally convinced my buddy to hit up a lake I've been ice fishing since I was a wee wee lad. My buddy liked to fish another lake where you can limit out on brookies in 2 hours. But it's a 2 hour drive and I like rainbows way better.

So me, my buddy, an old friend from elementary school and one of his buddies went out to the lake I wanted to go to. We arrived around 10am. The road in hasn't been plowed and we had to hike in. The snow was knee deep and we all weren't feeling too sexy. It was about a 600 yard hike in and I had to break trail. While packing gear, including the auger.

We didn't have to walk very far out. We fished maybe 10 feet of water. Got our holes drilled and out bait down. Right away I had one on. The fish were chewing the bait, but they weren't really taking it hard. About five minutes later, my friend from elementary had one on. The ice was probably 18 inches thick. Just as he got the fish to the top of the hole, the fish came off. Instantly he just reached in the hole and flipped the fish onto the ice. First fish down. We spent the next little while consistently feeding(losing) fish. We were having a blast. Then my other buddy finally got one on. When the fish got to the top of the hole, it came off. The fish couldn't turn in the 8" hole. And like a little bear cub my buddy is, he had both hands in, elbow deep in his hole. He flung his fish onto the ice.

We fished a couple hours more, feeding more fish. Then it started to get dark and we hiked out.

We headed back home. We were tired but grabbed some brew ha has and threw the fish on the barbeque. We also tossed on the big fish from "Macky" lake. The fish from Macky lake was gross. Tasted really murky. The other two were nice and chrome and tasted awesome.

So after having a beer or 12, and eating all the fish. We decided we should head out again in the morning.

So we got back out there about 10am. Some of us didn't fair as well as others on the way out. Buddy here was sleeping with a half eaten breakfast burrito in his hand... until he choked on a piece of egg that woke him in a shot.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1607096_10153690893010387_451549998_n.jpg

We opened up our holes from the day before. My buddy dropped his hook down, jigged it once and pulled up the first fish of the day.

Fishing was steady. We would catch/lose one and then 5 minutes later do it again. My one buddy who did the double hand noodlin/hillbilly hand fishing had the fish dialed in... that or a hot hole. But science proved it was a sideways horseshoe up his ass. He limited out. In total we killed 9. We tossed the nicest 3 onto the barbeque. The rest are headed for the smoker. We ended up pulling out some spawners.

Got a hold of newhunterette for a brine recipe. But I had to add some Jack Daniels Winter Jack. I hadn't tried it before and picked up a bottle at new years. But the bottle never got cracked. So I opened her up and had a snort. The stuff is dangerous. It taste like apple cider with some whiskey. So myself, my mom, my g-ma and g-pa all passed the bottle around for a pull.

After that was done I finally got down to getting the fish in the brine.

Little cheifs are cheap and more than enoigh to smoke a trout or two.

A big cheif, little cheif or bradley should show up on your local mom and pop shops flyer in the spring.

If I had known I would have shipped you my big cheif back in November. Gave it to a buddy of mine... couldn't fit it in yhe move.

So I've basically been hibernating since January. Got a call from the polaris dealership in Edson. I was suppose to only be here for a week... but it's been non stop working since I've showed up. The weather has been shitty as a bulls ass. But it's starting to get nice out and I need to get cardio back up to snuff.

So today I got me some new mountain mashers. Got some scarpa kinesis pro gtx boots.

So here's some mauings for the day...

Last weekend I was traveling from Valemount to Prince George for the Avenged Sevenfold/Hellyeah concert.

Burned through Mcbride with half a tank of fuel. No big deal, I can get there no problem. I started to do the pig ol' headbob. I was tired. So without thinking I pulled over at the first pullout to catch a 15. 6 hours later I woke up... truck wasn't running. I had left my truck running and burned it out of fuel.

I was out of cell service. My buddy was expecting me to be at his house by 2am. So I waited and waited and waited. Had my4 ways on hoping someone would stop. I just wanted to give someone my buddy's number to let him know what was happening.

Meanwhile my buddy thought I got into town and thought I hit up the Penatrator and found somewhere else to stay for the night.

While he waa thinking I was doing the walk of shame, I decided that I would go for a walk. I people saw a rruck on the side of the road and someone walking down it they'd stop. So grab my phome and wallet and off I go. Got maybe 10 yards down the road and I see a 6 leaker slowing down and starting to pull over.

So I head back to the teuck. Buddy hops and and first thing out of his mouth was "are you broken down too". He blew a clamp on his intercooler. So I was digging around my trailer and my truck to see if I had something that would work. Half hoir later my buddy pulls up. We burned back to town to grab fuel and a couple clamps for the guy. When we got back he was gone... don't blame him.

Now last nght I was headed from clearwater back home to the puddle to grt some rodeo and bear hunting in. Made it to 100 mole and blew a tire. I usually pack 2 spares... but I left them in the trailer. So instead of being at papa bears house eating bacon and eggs before heading out...

Im here in 100 mole hanging out waiting for things to open up.

Now laugh away... wouldn't put this up if it wasn't funny

So this weekend I made my way to Saskatoon. Was on my way to meet up with a couple friends Be-Rad and Schmyle. Only got pulled over once. Got a verbal warning about how my mud flaps are nonexistent.

Rolled into Saskatoon at midnight on saturday. We were off by seven in the morning to check out a lake Be-Rad had heard about.

The lake was sturgeon lake north of Prince Albert. Be-Rad was going off of google earth. We ended up heading down a farmer's field access road. Schmyle was driving... city truck with city tires...
https://fbcdn-photos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t1.0-0/1513775_10154156513240387_4259695272831608122_n.jp g

It was pretty easy to get out and turn around. Off to the next road we thought may take us to the lake. It wasn't very far until we were stuck again.
https://fbcdn-photos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t1.0-0/10372001_10154156513335387_2599959111791490326_n.j pg

Me and Be-Rad sent Schmyle for a hike while we started digging. The ground sure is silty there. Tried jacking the truck up and the jack just sank.

I was feeling winded and needing water. So I stretched out on the tailgate for a quick five. Just then a couple vehicles came burning down the road. I thought it was the farmer and he was pissed for blocking the road.

I thought it was the farmer until the one truck went burning onto the field and got stuck.
https://fbcdn-photos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t1.0-0/960298_10154156513375387_670095711226978096_n.jpg

Turns out it was the farmer's buddy. The farmer burned back to his place and grabbed the tractor. He pulled us out in short order and gave us proper directions to the lake. I guess his road is the best way into the lake after everything dries up.

So half hour later we finally make it to the lake. First cast I ended up snagging a carp. That thing didn't didn't even get to see the beach. Be-Rad ended up losing a couple fish.

I switched over to a lucky bug zombie maxx lure. I had seen them before but this was my first time trying one. So I just put tge lure in the water to play with the action. Then out of no where a pike hammers it. Landed my first pike ever. He was a monster lol.... and they'll get bigger... I hope.

After I was feeling tired and thirsty again. Took a drink of water. Instantly started puking water came up then after that I started puking blood.

Off to Prince Albert hospital. The receptionist was something else but nice. A little snippet of our conversation:

Her - I'm guessing you're single?
Me - ughh.. yeah
Her - bet you're planning on staying that way?

I had no response, was mildly dumbfounded... don't know what she meant by that. But I should have said no... maybe shr would have formally introduced me to the triage nurse, whom was very easy on the eyes.

Wasn't long until I seen the doctor. Was basically told to lay off caffeine, snus and the sauce... now it's "light" foods for the next little while. No dairy, steak n lobster, fatty foods or spicy food...

After I was let free, we went back out fishing. Didn't really get into many more fish. Killed a pike and a walleye of no major size.

Like your sig line says drunk and givin er ain't covered under warranty. I partied my guts out in my twenties as well. 14 years later and I'm still sensitive to caffeine booze and greasy spicy food.

Ill tell you though I don't miss the hangovers. Bad decisions. And I save a tone of money.

i take my hunting fishing much more seriously now without the other crap in the way.

so met up with the boss at the pub. We happened upon quite a cute waitress. I showed her my find and asked "do you know what a hootchie is?"

She replied "a girl?"

My boss cracked up and said "you just ruined any chance that uou had with her"

But I'm pretty sure the asteroid of a rock on her left hand ruined any chance I had with her first.

So after that ordeal my boss said I need to head home for a bit.

So growing up only an hour and a bit from the interlakes area... but only ever fishing Sheridan, me and my brother figured we'd try some of the smaller lakes.

Mostly because we didn't want to stay at a resort or pull oars on a bigger lake such as Sheridan... since we were sans boat motor.

We had a hard time getting into the lakes. We could get close, but not close enough. We did manage to get to one lake.

There was some minnows near shore, so we figured there be sharks out there. So out we go.

Talk about slow fishing. My brother had "the hot rod". As hot as it could be. In two hours we were out there, we(my brother) hooked two fish. Not of the slightest edible size.

First catch of the day

So in the morning we took awhile to get motivated. But we got out late in the afternoon. Once again my brother had the hot rod. But I think it was the boat operator getting him onto the fish. We didn't want to kill the smaller one... but it had swallowed the hook.

So after my FAILED cariboo hunt. I took a day with my brother out. Mostly to try and get a bear and possibly a BIG deer. I have pictures of big deer in june in an area that i like to hit ip for spring bear hunting. Being earlier in the season, I figured our chances should be decent.

Well it was really busy out. It was October frst, so there was a bunch of moosr hunters out. Seen one rack on a trailer coming out as we were going in. On top of that, Interior Roads were hauling all over the place. Not sure if they were getting a mine claim ready or just stock piling gravel for the winter. Though they were stocking it about 50 clicks in.

We carried on and I wanted to hit a spot I call Bear Mountain. It's a spot I've seen the big deer and big bears in the spring. I drove by the road. They seriously deactivated it. So we parked the truck and hiked in. We never did see anything, but cut this track(300wm casing for reference).

Now being the long weekend(for most), the boss shut her down early on Saturday (I think it's because his wife made a trip out).

So I called an audible and decided I was going hunting. I'm saving a deer tag for November in region 5. Planning on dropping some crankers me and my dad missed on the last day last year.

So I figured I'd try some new spots for an any sized buck. So I threw my stuff on the truck and took a power nap. Woke ip at 1am and hit the road. At daylight I was in Blue River. A spot on google earth looked good. Not so...

So I wasted prime morning getting out of the willows. So I headed south to Clearwater. Tried to see if Jelvis' claims were right.

There was people everywhere. On top of that it was much more moosey looking than deer looking. Spent mid day road poachin. I don't have the patience for sitting in blinds (except for waterfowl) or road hunting (unless it's spring bear hunting). So to be fair that may have been my downfall. Excrpt there was thick ass spruce everywhere. So I ditched that spot and hit Little Fort. I figured it'd be good considerong I'm always dodging deer around there while I drive through.

Hunted Lityle Fort until dark. I only managed to pull a little chicken out of there.

So I made the short burn down to Barriere. Crashed there for the night and headed out before daylight. I hoofed her on foot until noon. Only jumped a couple chickens. I did hear some gun fire though.

A perfectly good truck (as good as dodges can get) and a perfectly good road... but I'd rather put rubber to dirt.

So after my goat hunt, I made it back home. The roads from vanderhoof to williams lake were god awful. At some point in time I blew a CV on my truck.

Anyways, friday we were going to go some road poaching, but running around town for the day vetoed that.

Saturday morning we were up at 3am. We were a little late. It was a crisp -27.

Last Christmas I forced father bear to retire his old trapper nelson when I bought him a lasternax tatonka pack.

So it was just breaking daylight when we left the truck. We made it to the top of the hill only jumping 2 does and a 2 point. Pops had a doe draw, but his excuse that they were too small and it was too early.

We plowed through the knee deep snow.
https://fbcdn-photos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/v/t1.0-0/10341884_10154901671995387_1626407706694493897_n.j pg?oh=4e084e5bf64688889c353026cfb67d95&oe=5509DDAC&__gda__=1426249977_c42759637ddbc1e5368c50c707a8829 d

Now my dad ain't a dwarf and he hasn't had this shins blown off in korea.

We hunted the back side of the hill. We figured deer would be in the area like cattle. This was the most snow we had in the area that my dad could remember.. for this time of year.

We figured out that the deer must be way down on the river. The deer that were up higher were in the ravines eating the little bits of exposed grass under the fir trees.

We jumped a few more does. We were using every excuse not to knock over a doe... too far, too closw, too big, too small, too early, to Iate. I think the only way we were going to smack one of those is if she was stealing our beer.

We made a big loop. It was starting to get dark when we got back on the road. It was still a good jaunt back to the truck.

As we were headed back to the truck (by this time father was starting to get a little winded). In all fairness I was burning along ahead of him and I had just spent 5 days running up and down mountain sides.

On our way back, a little suzuki drove by me. He was bow hunting and I guess he had seen a couple nice 4 points.

So we kept trucking on, finally another truck came down the road. A very fine fellow from the coast named Frank drove up. He offered a ride and we gladly accepted

On the drive back to the truck, I guess Frank talked to the guy in the suzuki. The guy in the suzuki thought a ride was on our way. Otherwise he would have atopped and fave us a ride.

So we got back to the truxk, but being as cold as it was, the diesel was being a bot of a bitch to get started. By now we had a chill, but Frank gave us a hand getting her started.

We went back to his camp and had a cup of coffee with him and his crew. There was a couple of other guys having a rough time too. But we BS' d with Frank and his crue over a cup of coffee while we let the truck run.

The next day we didn't make it back out.

Today I squeezed in a half day bow hunt. I ended up having to take my tuck in to get fixed. Broke my breaker bar trying to get the axel nut off.

So my brother and his buddy tried dropping me off where I wanted to get out. Where I wanted dropped off was at 12 board... but they could only make it to the 2 board.

I was trying to b-line it to the 12 board. The snow was knee deep. So b-lining it through the snow... i stopped for a moment to grab a drink.

Just then I looked over and spotted a deer. The deer had me pinned. Just the way it was standing by a Christmas tree, I couldn't put antlers on it's head. It's hocks were soaked and his body was massive said he was a buck. At 40 yards i couldn't put any bome om hos head. I tride to get a better angle, but he decided to move to thicker cover.

200 yards up the road a 3 point crossed at maybe 60 yards. Tried making another play, but the bush was too thick and I couldn't help but to snap twigs.

Seen a few more does and fawns, a cow moose and a fisher chasing a rabbit. Think I may have to squeeze one more day off and get out with the twanger one more time.

So far this is the worst hunting season I've had in years. Havem't even managed to be part of a kill.

Well got to get out with my brother for a few hours. Hit up one of our favourite lakes to ice fish. This summer I was out fished by him. So I was determined to get some vengeance. And that I did... it wasn't the ten fold I was hoping for, but redemption none the less. I killed three and lost 5 or so. My brother didn't even hook one.

Finally got back out this morning. Was suppose to go yesterday. But my brother and some friends convinced me to hit up the Old Vagina (overlander) on boxing day. So we kind of slept in and never made it out.

So we were up and going at a decent (still late) hour today. Had our friend Cavan and step nephew Brickles out with us today.

After quickly filling up and Cavan asked if we were stopping at Marshall's store. I told him that we'd be going the totally wrong direction. He figured we were going to Snag Lake. I can't catch shit in that lake, and I prefer rainbows over brookies almost any day. So we decided to go to our favourite ice fishing lake.

As we pulled up I pulled an audible and kept driving to another lake I haven't fished in years. Over 10 for sure. So Cavan and Brick stayed at lake "A" and me and my brother headed to lake "B".

Since it's been so long, we had a hard time remembering where to drill a hole. On my brothers first hole he pulled this guy out of two feet of water.

We spent most of the day drilling holes trying to find some sort of structure. I missed one fish and didn't see much else.

We fished lake "B" until quarter after one. We then headed off to see how Cavan and Brick were doing. Cavan killed three about the same size I got the other day and my brother got one more the same size s Cavan's.

We fished lake "A" until dark and made fried trout and bacon chipotle salad for supper. We're headed back to lake "B" tomorrow. We're taking Cavan's quad and hauling down to the far end.

Let's try this for the 3rd time... keeps timing out.

The fished measured in at 27 inches.

The only thing we found in it's stomach was this beetle

I felleted the fish. One fillet we did Fish Crisp Gourmet Grill Smoked Maple seasoning. I sold a shit tonne of this over the years, but this was the first time trying it.

The other fillet we did it up with:

Salt and Pepper
Dill Paste
Crushed Pineapple
Lemon Slices

We tossed both onto the BBQ for roughly 20 minutes. They turned out deadly. If you had the fish crisp by itself you'd say it was pretty good. But having it next to the crushed pineapple and lemon blew it out of the water.

Nice looking trout you're catching.
