Lets say you had a choice of the top 5 smaller accesories you could take into the mountains with you. What would they be?
Exclude your rifle, clothing, boots, the usual gear. I'm not talking about nessessities. I'm talking NICEATY. Things that you have all used and have actually worked under expected conditions.
Many of us have wasted so much money on crappy trinkets and have now gone to buy the gear that really works but there are some up and comers who really do not know where to start.
Maybe this will help.
Some of these items may be impossible to find in Canada. What would they be.

my sherpa toque from allpaca wool that my wife made me(keeps my noggin dry) however my sitka beenie is sweet

They don't like hunters but if you don't use deodorant and wear something plaid (without bloodstains) you might not be discovered.

A good range finder - after 300 yrds bullet drop is too dramatic for 'guessing' distance
Wyoming saw with bone and wood blades - a good fire that you can sit close to needs short pieces of larger diameter wood, plus antler removal
Good sleeping pad and inflatable pillow - preventing aching neck, knees, hips
Hiking poles - one for ascent and two for descent

My gear leans more to comfort now that I have 50 yrs behind me and just getting up in the mountains hurts a lot more. The extra weight slows me down but the trade-off is not suffering for days or weeks afterwards.

How did you find the silponcho for size? I have heard it is a bit long...at least for imps like me (5'8"). I am worried it would be tricky for me to walk while using it as a poncho.

I assume getting it hemmed would be silly as it would cut into the ability to use it a tarp.

hmmm have pretty much what seems to work.. I prefer the SILDOME to the siltarp (have both) sudden squall sildome is home..the small stove that burns woods from iskut (thanks Tim)

I would LOVE to try one of those new down bags "born in the Himalyas " I think its called " sea to sky " maybe an upgrade to pack system...

must haves Spenses Bridge resident sheep address for big rams...hell legal rams..lol

1. you know I was thinking the ice maker is doable. I have a suite case gen and you could borrow an ice maker from someone you don't like, because guaranteed Bruce will break it. Just another horse for you to lead through all them willows. No more Royal Reserve whisky either.

2. Ya my chair broke again last year. Some research this winter for something better then the Canadian flag chairs is a must.

3. Finding a cook whose name isn't Bruce will just make it confusing.

4. Grow a set. I'll just let your wife know you chew all the time, like she doesn't already anyway.

5. A different tent for Bruce and trail marker signs so he doesn't crap on the walking trail, again.

6. Rule book for all card games. As someone always makes rules up as he goes.

I might have to try a 2" foamie this year. The 3" foamies are too soft.

Why can't Bruce sleep in the same tent? Don't you guys like lumberjacks?

Landmines are a perfectly acceptable way to protect camp.

For day trips...

1. A foam pad for sitting, glassing.

2. gun sheath on pack. nice to have two free hands and gun readily available. works best in alpine.

3. Bipod. easy to put down gun in snow to take a leek. i hear they are a good shooting rest too.

4.sil-poncho. hunt all day in the rain. no excuses!!

5. waterbottle holder, goes on pack waisr belt. water when i need it, quiet to get at. keeps me going

Stuff that I've used that I don't think I could live without now:

1. Thermarest Neo-Air: you can't over-value a good night's sleep!
2. Rangefinder: estimating distances in the mountains is a mug's game.
3. Trekking poles: they'll save your knees.
4. Baby wipes: self-explanatory
5. Kifaru gun bearer: way easier on the body than slinging your rifle over your shoulder, and way quicker to get into action than having it strapped to your pack.
