hmm the rifle is a .458 shooting 500 grain round nose..in a thumbhole stock..lol it did the trick for Tim..lol
30-06 is fine stick to premium bullets..ie TSX my favorite ammo brand..

5-15 d and c hmmm lot better places for black bear than those..

As always if anyone needs ideas or once they get a draw need any kind of suggestions or help of any sort..please send PM with ph # ( my typing sucks )it would be pleasure to be of whatever assistance I could be...

Did I mention I still am looking for elk suggestions and help for this month in 7-20 lol...

Some of the great bear hunting areas have changed the past 2 years....be current with your imfo..

Yup. Was on roll for few years with back to back tags. Cut a tag late Sept 2003 and then early May 2004. Also had success in 2000 and 2001. Not getting out nearly enough in recent years but life changes.

LEH submitted and have done all the planning I can do until I get the green light from the mighty and powerful LEH Gods...... Don't want to get my hopes up too high as I have pulled a ZERO in my last 6 entries. Hope I get one before I am too old to actually go......

There are STILL massive Grizzlies and black bears out there....some of the biggest bears ever shot were harvested last year...some areas counted 40 G bears....one small little insignificant "valley" held 14 different G bears...

True a couple notable areas experienced "issues" but not for lack of bears...

Lets get those LEHs in for spring bear and early sheep....

I have been enjoying the calls and diiscussions from other bear hunters..

Here's hoping you all get your draws......

cheers

I have a question , if you see a lots of blackbears in a given area, does that mean that there won't be any
grizzlys in the area where the blackbears are ?

srupp

No. The black bears often show up on the slides first but the grizz take the slides over as soon as they want to. The old boys know when and where to hit them years of experience right.
You'll notice black bears are uneasy in grizz country, esp on good slides. That's what I have observed anyways.
When things arent green I've seen their sign around beaver ponds and goat cliffs. Grizz will eat any meat they can find early on, winter kills etc.

Looking forward to another spring hunt. 5 years in a row for me. But I travel far to ensure a gimme draw. 67 days hunting them for me now, and I'll change my handle once that goal is accomplished!

Wish I was headed up that way again this year, but it wasnt in the cards. Maybe in the fall or else next fall!

Good luck again up there!!

theres a 9' grizz hanging out in region 7 still. tried for him with my fall draw, even with all of srupp's help this big bugger eluded me. found his tracks, his kills and his massive scat but ran out of time and had to head home. im sure he'll be roaming the melting slides in that same vicinity come spring.
