Western mountaineering has a good reputation, choose one that suits your body and the temp rating you want and dont look back.

Montbell make great light weight bags wife and I have been using ours for about 6 years probably 20 days a year and they are holding up great.
This is pretty close to what we have
http://www.montbell.us/products/disp.php?cat_id=1001&p_id=2321151

I have slept to -5c no problem the wife was cold and needed long underwear and a toque at that temp.

I've been using a thermarest haven(I'm 6'2") the last couple years. Rated to -8C. I have to upgrade my sleeping pad to take full advantage of it(it's zipperless). But I've just worn a base layer and used a pad liner to bring up the R rating.

My feet get claustrophobic in mummy bags... but I don't have that lroblem in this bag.

Not saying mine is the best... but it's what I've been using.

Wife has a western mountaineering -18 bag that is 12 years old its awesome she had the zipper replaced under warranty last year so it should be good for another 12 years. Only insulates down to -10 now but for a 12 year old bag with at least 500 days of use I am impressed. Mind you my 16 year old Marmot -22 has over thousand days on it and its still going strong, it to though is only good till -10 now.
Basically what I am saying buy quality and it will last a long time.

whats the budget? what temperature rating?i use a $200 down bag good to -7 for backpacking there are much better bags for 2-3 times the cost. while guiding last season i carried a 50$ synthetic coleman bag that was the size of a keg but i carried it with 5 days gear up the mountain and added a goat to the bag for the trip down lol. Big agnes mec thermarest northface all make decent bags some of the big agnes bags are really light

Check out quilt style bags. They aren't for everyone but I have been using one and love it. -15 rating and smaller than a one litre bottle and weighs 1 1/2 pounds. This is what I am using. http://www.enlightenedequipment.com

I use a Montbel super spiral for summer and fall, for winter I have a Big Agnes Hogan park. I use a neo air all season thermarest.
Don't forget that the best sleeping bag will be terrible if you don't have a Good sleeping pad to back it up.

I use the Exped Ibis for mild temps and the Exped Waterbloc 1200 when it's really cold. They are great bags. 900 fill down, waterproof and breathable. The seams are welded so no water can get in through the stitching. I dropped one in a lake one afternoon and it floated away. I retrieved it after about 10 minutes and slept in it that night warm and dry. Nice to know when you are in the middle of no where. Never had a problem with the zippers. They pack up small in a compression bag and are light.

I have a Montbell for warmer temps and a Western Mountaineering for up to -15. Both great bags, I'm only a tad over 6' tall but I'm much more comfy in a long bag.

Whatever you do end up doing, if it doesnt come with a compression bag, get one. Shrinks my bag down significantly more compared to the stock bag

Check out Seattle's www.featheredfriends.com - there is nothing else that compares to them.
I am a mountaineer and have slept in the toughest conditions, in -40F/C and out in the extreme altitudes. Their bags are waterproof and totally custom made, any colour, any zipper, etc.
You will also save some weight if you get your bag custom made to your size - I am 5,5 girl so for me there is no point in having a long bag, for the weight i saved i put in extra few ounces of feather to be even warmer.

Big agnus storm king 0 , and get the Qcore insert matress .. I own it , the set up is ridiculously comfortable for a back packer. Fall asleep instantly and its got Down tech or DRY DOWN so it wont hold water if it gets wet

Agreed on the feathered friends, great bags. slightly heavier on par with western mountaineering but worth the higher durability. hiding money in an envelope as we speak for a new Lark UL bag from them.

Light weight and packs small being the operative words. I went with the Zpacks 20f/-7c down bag at 17 ounces. Excellent product that has had no problem keeping me warm at freezing temps.

Run TAIGA whenever I can. Have for years. Maybe not always the best cuts but always have had bomber gear for me. Made in B.C.

Quality
lightweight
cheap

pick any 2. I ended up with the Marmot Helium membrane for about $300 several years ago, after researching and handling all the big names. Just decide what specs you want and watch for a good clearance sale on a bag that fits the bill.

Outdoor Gear Lab is a great place to check out. With so many brands, you can't go wrong with many of the top brand selections. I have a Western Mountaineering bag myself.

The Valandre bags are very nice .I use the BLoody Mary. You can get some good deals on bags if you have some time to shop around.I recently posted a Western Mountaineering sale of 15% off you very seldom see that.Another good source for High end down bags is (The Backpacking light) site. But you need a membership i believe for the used gear thread.
