As usual, with shooting light came the first flock of Widgeons, managed to knock down two then a bit later a pair circled the spread, knocked them down and to our surprise one was a Pintail. Another first for the field. Happy, happy, happy. Just wondering if any of you fraser valley hunters get many Pintails in the fields?

I wont speak for anyone, but I know one group that shoots quite a few. That one is a stud! Nice bird and good hunt!

My son got one on New years day. His first. He was quite pumped. We had seen a few in the fields with the mallards a couple days before. Some years we never see any pintails, but the last 2 or 3 years we have seen a few.

I see you also got Gradwall duck too. Where I shoot (field) our group get pintails almost every time. We got 2 pintail today but mostly mallards.

Thanks Lorne, this un-named group you speak of...are they hunting thr Fraser Valley? Do you see them on the Island?

Yes they are hunting the fraser valley. We see some on the island. At this time of the year if we are patient enough we will get a crack at a few everytime out. Kiel posted a decent on in the slam thread.

this was a limit from around this time last year.

Thanks Farmer, I've been hunting my field for 5 years now and thats the first one for us, saw one last year but no shot. Lots of Mallards & Widgeons here every day. Guess it's all about location. Congrats to the son as well!! They sure are a beautiful bird, he's getting mounted

Nice brace of birds there, Those Pintails sure are pretty!! Today's bird is going to the taxidermist. He actually told me that it was a younger bird and didn't have the really white chest yet like yours. A trophy none the less and a first too. I'll have to keep my eyes open for more around here

Yes a young bird. Has hen all over it but, a trophy is whatever you view it as. I have one my first nicer pintails that's probably just a little better.

If the taxidermist said it was okay must be. My only concern would be pin feathers
