Heard today on the radio that this morning we were 1cm short from the record snow fall for the the month of December in FSJ, at 119 cm. Since that time, we have had 8 more cm of snow and are now at approx 126 cm of snow, which is over FOUR FEET......

Was out chasing elk yesterday and it sure is fun hiking around in the crap, not a whole lot easier with snowshoes than without.

The deer will take a sh*t kicking this year if we don't get a warm, dry rest of the winter.

Still not sure if I prefer the rain or the snow...

Cheers

That's a tough go.
Trappers dream right there though, the dogs will be running the rivers hard, easy to kill a pile of them. If they try to.

Sucks!!!!

I would really love to see the deer numbers like before the 2006 winter kill. But winters like this and springs like last years aren't going to make that happen!

Give it a week and any hay bales in the country will have some good elk trails to sit on and get your leh!

Has BC ever had feed stations? I heard that in some places in Alberta they have set up feed lots for deer in tough winters such as this.

This did this in Michigan when I lived in Windsor, and killed off tons of white tails. Below is a good read.

Steven saw about 35 head, but they are tought to get at right now, too much snow to get around in, where they are is too open and they are spooky as hell. I have been trying to fool this group for the last month, but they are just too spooky. Came up with a game plan from the day before, and drove in to the ranch right at daylight and hide behind the barn. Peaked around the corner and they were already heading for the brush. They are a klick away and already heading to the bush from seeing me. With this snow, they should come down to the low lands and be a little easier to stalk, but hey, I am having fun and still have 2 months.....knock on wood....LOL

Man that sucks. Last year was a pretty hard winter up there too, the deer were scarce enough this past fall. I think I'll be going somewhere else next season....wish we had some of that snow here on the island

This is not good for the game animals hope there is less to come your way in the next few months and that nature will have a early spring next year ???? down here in the EK we are enjoying less snow then normal hope it stays that way..

My first winter here and I finally caved. There's nowhere left to shovel this stuff too, so I bought a snowblower today.

So that is what snow looks like. We have, maybe, about 2" here in the Similkameen. Could be a long dry summer if things don't pick up.

Pretty damn deep for sure. Spent another 3 hour session on the tractor yesterday opening up the farm...again. I put the alfalfa bales between the house and corrals this year and only one moose around so far. Last year was rough on the critters and had a pack of wolves take a deer right outta my hay stack one night only 150 yards from the house. They must have been hungry as there was only a couple handfuls of hair and a big blood stain in the snow. No skull, bones, hide or guts left the next morning...nothing. Wondered why the dog was sticking close to the house ;)

Total for November and Dec is 186 cm, just a little over 6 feet. Dec broke the record at 132 cm.

There seems to be more snow from the 73 mile rd south than north.
