Hey guys, just wanting to get into bow hunting, target practice type stuff. looking for shops around Nanaimo that sell compound bows. I have been into Wholesale sports here, and am going to go to Bucky's in Duncan. Is there anywhere anyone can recommend?

i am not into archery but I did see some bows at Island Outfitters in Victoria. You could always get in touch with the nanaimo fish and game club and see who/ what they recommend (perhaps they even know of a member or two selling some used gear)

Take the drive up to Campbell River and stop in at River Rip Off.

Ask to speak with Gay Dan. Everyone will know who you are talking about. And no, I have no first hand knowledge as to why everyone calls him that.

I went into Wholesale sports 3 times. he second time I went someone actually talked to me, for about 2 minutes, then literally walked away from me as I was still trying to ask questions. Not to keen on going back if I can avoid it.

I've had exactly the same experience you've had in there!! One exception was a guy named Tony, who was very helpful when we were Christmas shopping for my grandson's! All the girls are very polite and helpful, but those other "Dicks" behind the gun counter suck rocks!!:icon_frow
One of them ,I hear is a member on this site??? Go figure??---Cheers---Field Marshal.

Thanks for the props but to be honest VantagePoint Outfitters is better positioned to help an experienced archer that definitely knows what he/she wants. I am happy to serve you a coffee at my home and share what little knowledge I have and let you shoot my bows if you like. I am more than happy to give any HBC'er an formal introductory lesson at no cost. I would recommend Bucky's as a full service shop and you should also talk to Mike at Stick and Strings Sports > https://www.facebook.com/StickAndStringSports

If you are in Nanaimo you should absolutely check out the local Archery Club at the F&G > send Awishanew (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/member.php?627-Awishanew) here a PM to get the details.
