Took a couple of pictures of these guys in the backyard here in Coquitlam at the end of November. They have been around a few times over the last couple of years and we see them from time to time. I believe the first time seeing them would have been about 3 years ago with the momma and they were about 12" high in the back yard. The sow was beating the neighbors garbage bucket off the trees looking for breakfast. It seems some people just don't get it with the bears and the garbage. I hope these pictures come up on the post and anyone feel free to edit size. There were taken with a cell

Yes, some urbanites just don't get it, while others are just plain ignorant. We have a fellow in our neighbourhood that purposely puts out cat and dog food, corn on the cob, and other treats to feed raccoons. In doing so he also attracts gulls, rats, and bears. His neighbours have repeatedly asked him not to, but he just laughs it off. I've asked the neighbours on both sides of him to either report him, or to sign a petition, but they would rather not get involved even though they constantly complain about the situation amongst themselves.

Lew, do you have to be next door to him to report it? If you know it's him, I don't see the problem as I'm sure the varmints and bears don't just stick to his yard.

No, but the only possible violation he can be charged with is 'purposely putting food out that can attract bears.' I've spoken to the municipal bylaw officer, but there's nothing he can do until a pending bylaw is passed making it illegal to feed raccoons. I've spoken to a couple of COs. They would prefer to have proof which only the adjacent neighbours can directly supply (one has pictures of a bear on the fellow's picnic table) He has an unlisted phone number so I can't give it to the CO so he can phone and give him a warning prior to fines. It's frustrating because I don't want to fight these reluctant neighbour's battles for them when it's obvious they won't step forward and help.
